The Hotel Salem

"I will start with saying the staff was great. They handled everything very well. They do warn you ahead there is no parking and that Ubers can’t pick up or drop off in front of the hotel because it is in the middle of a block that is closed off as a pedestrian walkway. Even though they communicated that I didn’t think there was no way to drop off luggage and then park. Also the pedestrian walkway is all stone and brick so you have to roll your suitcases over that. We got to our room (we had a king room) and the luggage holder was broken, so we had to address that first. Then when we’re in the room we noticed items not being maintained…..dresser had chips in the wood, the windowsills were damaged, the sink didn’t drain well, the plastic molding on the floor under the weird barn doors (see below) was cracked and rough. I noticed that after I ran my foot into it. I am glad I had socks on or I’m sure I would have cut my foot. The bathroom situation is weird. The toilet is in a separate room from the shower and sink. So after you use the bathroom you have to walk out to got to the other room where the sink is to wash your hands. The shower/sink room has 2 barn doors that come together. They don’t close tight together so it doesn’t really feel private. One of those doors looked a little beat up too. I have stayed at other Lark properties in the past and I was disappointed that in this one. It is in a good location if you want to walk around Salem."

"They were obviously cutting costs! Everything was bare minimum or less. No microwave, beds were situated where only one bed could see the TV, ice machine didn't work, provided toiletries weren't sufficient to bathe a mouse, musty smell, no blankets on beds, heat/AC filters needed changed, restaurant/lounge had a lot to be desired (one bartender, no waitstaff, limited takeout type meals), and then I was overcharged, which I am disputing with my credit card company. I could go on....the view was nice"

"Our rooms were disgusting! Multiple stains on the carpet and box frame of the bed. Dead bugs in shower. This hotel is in an industrial area and did not feel super safe if I was a lone traveler. With how gross the room was I was not confident of the sanitation so did not even eat the breakfast there."
