Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Check carefully that you don't have a sharp object lurking in the bottom of your hand luggage. Other restricted items include explosive or flammable substances, such as fuel and fireworks, and gels and liquids in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Dress in comfortable layers and opt for shoes that are flat and easy to remove.
• You've probably heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To minimize your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and move your legs and feet often.

• Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be shown to security personnel. Keep them someplace accessible so you don't hold up the queue.

• There's a good chance you'll be required to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a smart idea.
• Pocket knives and other sharp items are prohibited in the cabin. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.
