Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're well prepared. We've made a list of handy travel tips that will help get your Paris escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Traveling on a plane can be a great experience if you take the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want a few toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a spare change of clothes and a good read. Next, make room in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, your medications and perhaps a neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, remember to take your passport, travel docs and some money.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Pointed or sharp objects, like your trusty Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and fuels, are also banned.

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of a plane aren't the place for a fashion parade. Wear layers and opt for shoes that are roomy, flat and easy to slip on and off.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some simple exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.

The answer is — be prepared. We've pulled together some handy tips and tricks for a fuss-free trip through security. Look out Paris, here you come:

• Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be presented to airport security. Keep them handy to avoid fumbling around for them.
• Your jacket, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like coins, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as your turn draws near.
• All electronic devices, including your phone and tablet, are also required to be scanned.
• Want to bring along your favorite cologne? No problem. As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's stored in a zip-lock bag, it's fine to bring with you in your carry-on.
• There's a possibility that you'll need to take your shoes off to be X-rayed, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a smart idea.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them safely away in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed in the cabin.
