"I love the portola! Only place I stay and travel almost monthly down to Monterey. The rooms are always clean, spacious, the beds are very comfy. Partial bay view is a must. Balcony has two chairs nice to enjoy ur coffee on or listen to some wildlife (sea lions). Basically 4 restaurants attached to the hotel, Carmel bakery n coffee inside the hotel. The location is prime! Walk right and head down Alvarado st you got ur breweries and 10-15 restaurants. Go left and you’re on the Monterey pier , 7 restaurants, a bunch of clothes ans candy shops and my favorite whale watching. I do every time and it’s so close to portola. "

"A quiet spot but only steps from everything. The big coastal big bike trail just across the street give you miles of riding options."

"Amazing view of the ocean, that’s practically all you see. You’d have to stand up to the window to see the beach, people, or buildings. The staff were very friendly and treated us like royalty. Shops nearby are what you expect from a tourist town with a handful of shops selling practically the same kind of merch. My only complaint is the shower of the room. The shower head is a bit weak, shallow in coverage, and isn’t consistent in temperature (I set it hot and it will alternate between hot and just warm)."

"Room is extremely outdated and dirty. We checked in and had to call the staff to remove a moldy curtain out of our room. Couldn’t sit outside on the deck because it was impossible to push the privacy curtains back and the screen door was busted a wouldn’t close properly. The water in the shower is slimy for some reason and the chair next to the desk was covered in stains making it to nasty to sit in. We love the location but for how much there charging now and the fact that they just started charging for parking as well is ridiculous. They need some major renovations done to the property to make it worth us going back to stay"

"There was a water stain on the bathroom ceiling, and the window cushion was very worn. Other than that, very clean and staff was great! "

"The jacuzzi was great, located next to the wonderful pool in the glass walled indoor pool complex. The room was clean, well set up and comfortable. "

"We had a king harbor view. The view was beautiful. We were on floor 2 and could hear the people above us, but had a sound machine we brought with us so it wasn't too bad. First breakfast the coffee was luke warm, "pastry" was a dry croissant, it was ok. Second day, fruit was much better and coffee was hot. It was hard to get in the hot tub, even later at night. Overall, a good stay. "

"hotel was very pretty and peaceful. the pools were heated which is quite nice and is located in a really nice place of the city if you wanna tour the downtown area."
