「We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. 「You must have a car while visiting this property. Otherwise there is nothing to do. There is a very nice outdoor pool that is not heated. So it must be warm enough outside to enjoy it. The hotel offers a nice breakfast. There is no bar or restaurant at the hotel. About a half mile walk from the hotel is a very expensive restaurant with a limited menu. I don't believe it is open for lunch. Another reason you need a car. During check in I noticed a large hose slightly larger than a dryer...
