See gold-rush architecture and glacial lakes against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and ride a vintage locomotive through history in this Alaskan town.

Nestled into a glaciated valley in Alaska’s breathtaking panhandle region, Skagway sits on the fringe of national protected areas, wilderness reserves and the magnificent Inside Passage. A popular destination for cruise ships chartering the Lynn Canal, Skagway is a town with fascinating gold-rush history embedded into its awe-inspiring natural scenery.

Pick up a walking trail map from the downtown Visitor Center and be transported to a bygone era as you stroll along Skagway’s historic main street, Broadway Avenue. Protected by the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical ParkOpens in a new window, the street features a showcase of restored shop fronts, restaurants and wooden sidewalks. You’ll see locals in period costumes and fascinating recreations of the Skagway that boomed during the late 19th-century gold rush, when prospectors poured into the Yukon region. You can experience this historic area with free walking tours held daily throughout the summer. Stop by important historical buildings, including the Mascot Saloon Museum, an early brothel building and the town’s first cabin.

One of the best ways to get to know this mesmerizing landscape is with a trip on the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway. Climb the steep mining-boom route in a vintage train and see mountain vistas unfold before you. Spot scenic landmarks such as Glacier Gorge, Dead Horse Gulch and the Bridal Veil Falls on your stunning journey.

Explore the network of hiking trails that link Skagway’s downtown area to magnificent outlooks and historical landmarks. Trek to alpine lakes and thundering waterfalls and visit the historic gravesites of infamous Skagway residents. You can also link up with the steep but rewarding Chilkoot Trail and follow the footsteps of thousands of gold-rush prospectors on the 4-day hiking trail to the Klondike Gold Fields in Canada.

Skagway is located in southeastern Alaska. It is easily accessible by boat, in luxury on a cruise ship or conveniently via the Alaska Marine Highway ferry. You can also reach the town by air from Alaska’s capital, JuneauOpens in a new window, or drive along the Canadian South Klondike Highway. Step off your ship and into another world in the beautifully preserved landscapes of Skagway.

Great room, great breakfast and staff. The check-in procedure was odd, as there's no office onsite nor is the hotel name on the building. You'll need to make appointment to meet with the hotel owner for him to give you your key and code.

We enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. We didn’t have a car and the free shuttle doesn’t go out that far. So we had to use a taxi to go anywhere.

Try to visit the Dyer area Ann T transit....it’s the authentic original landing spot. The White Pass Yukon RR is good but pricey. Skagway, like all these little ship stops, are not much more then seasonal jewelry stores....location is beautiful.
