My fiancee and I stayed here during our week long trip to Hanoi. Besides the great location in old quarters, the good food and service, the staff is truly amazing. They especially went above and beyond on our last day when my fiancee got food poisoning the day of our flight. They extended our check out late into the evening so she could get as much rest as possible before the flight. They prepared hot tea and even got the kitchen to cook up some plain congee during off hours once she started recovering a bit. All of this was a no additional cost to us. Just on the great hospitality alone I would highly recommend Grand Hotel du Lac to anyone planning on visiting Hanoi.
