Our stay was absolutely unacceptable. At 1:30 am, right after the lights went out, we discovered a bed bug crawling in the bed toward us. We immediately packed up, garbage-bagged anything that had been on the floor, woke our sleeping 2-year-old, and left the hotel. What should have been a quick exit turned into a stressful ordeal lasting until 3:00 am—stripping at the door, carrying my son inside, showering in the middle of the night, and leaving all of our bags, clothes, and even food in the car out of fear of bringing bed bugs into our home. The most disturbing part wasn’t just the infestation, but the manager Angela’s complete lack of care or concern. The only response I received was that ‘they are investigating and it will take a few days to get back to me.’ This is unacceptable for a situation that directly impacts health, safety, and peace of mind. It’s also not surprising the hotel recently changed its name from Holiday Inn to Birchwood without changing management—clearly, the same problems remain. Unfortunately, this experience showed their true colours, and I would never recommend this property to anyone!

We like the area. It was small, and my grandchildren, who were in a different room with their parent, was able to freely walk around the area without fear of any issues. The rooms were quite spacious, the beds were comfortable. You had a kitchen facility and a dining/living room area in the room. It had an entrance into the main hallway which overlooked the pool area and there was the back door leading out to a balcony where there was a table and a couple of chairs. People were friendly. we enjoyed using the canoe and kayaks at the beach . It was a lovely vacation.

The property is not in a great spot and isn't super safe, they also have no security or anything on the property for when issues inevitably arrive.

Noisy. Small pool. Unfriendly staff. Expensive for what you get. Some kid puked in the play area that shut it down. Overall, for almost 700 bucks for 2 nights, it was 500 too expensive.

Poor Service, Noisy Stay, and Uncomfortable Room – Will Not Return Upon check-in, we went to our room to find a large permanent red stain on the floor. Wanting to avoid being charged, I called the front desk to report it. Instead of simply noting it, they made me come to the lobby, wait for maintenance to inspect it (who even said, “I don’t know why they put you in this room”), and then wait again for keys to a new room. I had explained we could stay if we weren’t blamed for the stain, but if moved, we needed a quiet room as it was a Monday evening and we had very important early morning work meetings. The new room reeked of air freshener so strongly we dropped our bags and had to leave until it dissipated. Despite my request for a quiet location, we were placed beside a large family with multiple rooms both beside and across the hall, who slammed doors, ran in halls, and continued to make noise until 3 a.m and well beyond me calling the front desk staff at 1a.m to report the ongoing disturbance and pleading for them to do something to make it stop. Additional issues: Only 3 towels in the bathroom for a 4-person reservation. Thermostat wouldn’t go below 18°C and the room stayed uncomfortably warm all night. No compensation—staff said to “take it up with Expedia.” If you want to deal with stains, sweat all night, and be kept awake by constant hallway noise, this is the place for you. Zero stars.

I liked most of the things the hotel had to offer. Although I did not like that my room had not been cleaned until I asked. I had two mornings without clean towels and a messy bed for most of my stay. If this is something that needs to be requested, you should tell the guests. Also, the female pool staff were a little rude around closing time.
