4/10 Poor

"Really disappointing stay. The room was unbearably hot from the moment we arrived, and despite using the fan provided and having the window open, so much so somebody could probably climb through, it made little to no difference. To make matters worse, the radiator in the bathroom appeared to be on full blast the entire time, with no obvious switch or way to turn it off. The heat made it incredibly uncomfortable and resulted in a very poor night’s sleep. We raised the issue with staff during our stay, but unfortunately nothing was done to resolve it beyond an apology and them saying “we did provide you with a fan”. Given the impact this had on our stay, it was disappointing that no compensation or meaningful attempt to improve the situation was offered. Just a mere “sorry”. On a positive note, the room was presented well, clean and had good amenities. Pub was also nice, ample parking too. However overall, the customer experience was poor and not what we expected. I stayed for my birthday and had to retreat home early the next day due to the lack of sleep so plans were unfortunately ruined."

"Fantastic venue with friendly colleagues. The only point for us was with breakfast. Very good quality produce, We didn't understand why any breakfast other than the full English, and one other item carried a surcharge. Surely an eggs benedict is cheaper to produce than the full English, but carried a £4 surcharge.Would strongly recommend s visit and we would stay again. The complimentary room upgrade was superb."

"Had a three night stay. Quirky Harry Potter themed room. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Had to report to the manager that the shower wasn’t working and he immediately went up to the room and simply turned it on. How embarrassing …. and me an engineer too. Ate in the hotel first night. Food was very good and comparatively inexpensive. Nicely cooked breakfasts as well. Good choice of beer. First time in Alnwick. Would go again. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Loved Harry’s bar which was just a few yards from the hotel."

"This hotel was absolutely terrible the whole hotel as soon as you walked in smelt damp & mold carpets were dirty had to shout to find someone who appeared to be painting this was after 5pm went to have a look at our twin room which was supposed to be refurbished kettle was filthy never been cleaned I don’t think wires all over the place coming from tv & wardrobe was a joke a few hangers in a corner near tv. would not recommend this hotel so please anyone do NOT stay at the schooner in fact all the other hotels in alnmouth know the schooner has a bad reputation but sadly we didn’t we collected our bags that evening & went to the Red Lion & booked in there "
