We thoroughly enjoyed our time staying at Wayan’s property. The pool is stunning and the location is great. It’s not the fanciest place ever, but think about what you’re paying — you really can’t beat it for value. We have no hesitation in recommending this place to other guests. We look forward to returning.

Not Too Clean, Crazy Neighbor
Cleanliness could have been better, as blankets and shower curtain didn't appear to be washed in a while. Bathroom smelled and water didn't drain properly leaving large puddles on the floor afterward. Owner of neighboring property was listening to his phone loudly, pretended to not understand English when we politely asked if he could turn it down and became irate and threatening when I offered him some headphones. I believe he is the cousin of Wayan, the owner of Tanah Semujan. Didn't accept credit card so had to scooter to nearby ATM which fortunately had a high daily limit of 2.5M rupiah. On the plus side, breakfast on the balcony was nice as was the location within walking distance to Ubud central and monkey forest.

Cannot Recommend
The sheets were stained, there was still trash from the last occupant in the room and the door wouldn't lock. The owners' response to my request for new sheets was they didn't have any other sets of sheets - they were all in the laundry. The biggest issue was the inability to lock the door; there was no offered solution for this besides the owner's wife holding the door from the outside while I locked it from the inside. It would have been a hilarious monty python sketch except it was pretty late and I was jet lagged. So mostly I was just concerned for my safety. Upon further investigation, this same place is listed on booking.com and the last review stated the same issue with the door. Which demonstrated that the property knew about the door but hadn't managed to fix the problem. In either case, I ended up staying somewhere else... I appreciate VRBO's support staff's efforts to assist me with this despite it requiring at least 5 international phone calls. I would not stay at this property again, neither can i recommend it in good conscience

Fantastic place to stay in Ubud! Not a terrible walk from all of the action and shops if you don’t mind walking. The room was very clean and accommodating and the hosts were fantastic! Truly will come back here just because of the amazing hospitality and friendly service.

Lovely hotel!
Great little hotel in a nice quiet location. Room was really clean with a comfortable bed and good air con. Shower pressure a bit weak but not an issue! Breakfast served every morning on your balcony made by the owner which was really good! Walking distance to everything, including rice fields and monkey forest.

Quiet spot, great hospitality
I stayed at Tanah Semujan guesthouse for eight nights and had a great experience. It is a nice spot if you’re after something a little quieter, but still in walking distance of Ubud’s attractions and happenings. Wayan is great, and was consistently attentive and helpful. Breakfasts were yummy!! Will be back again.

Great but poor wifi
Place was ok for the price, but I depend on internet for my business and wifi was very poor. Also very hard to lock the door had to leave it unlocked the first night. Decided to not book anymore nights and stayed somewhere else down the road. Breakfast was good, owners were great.

Cute bungalow, stinky sheets
I really liked the atmosphere here, but the one thing that really distracted from my trip was the fact that the bedding smelled terrible. I could tell the sheets were clean but the pillows and mattress just smelled like a sweaty man, and really need to be thrown away. I didnt really have a good sleep here as the sweaty pillow smell was too distracting, I ended up putting towels down to protect my face and body from it. The room itself smells musty and damp. I wish I had a more positive review because the building and the people that work here were beautiful and welcoming but I didn't enjoy my stay because of the unhygienic bedding.

Great location, yummy breakfast, friendly staff
We had a great stay overall. We were close to restaurants, the monkey forest and one of the main streets in town with many tourist spots nearby. The owner also offered himself as a driver for a fee and took us to many temples and other places, giving us whatever time we needed at each location. The only thing we noticed was the bath tub tile was crumbling on the side by the wall and the shower was hard to keep at a comfortable temperature (either cool or super hot) but since it's warm weather the cool water felt best. I would recommend it!

Such a disappointment
We read some great reviews and decided to book this hotel online for 2 nights but were utterly disappointed and had a terrible night there. We arived around 8pm and there was no one for the check in. After about 45 mins waiting, another guest gave us the owner's cell number who gave us guidance via whatsapp to do a self check-in. The room was in the middle in the ground floor and looked nice but had a very strong humidity smell... We have had smelly rooms in Indonesia but this was something much stronger and in the entire room, not just the bathroom. After asking if there was another room available, we were told there wasn't and immediately got told we could cancel the reservation and change hotels. What would have really made a difference for us is someone helping us with the smell in the room but there was nobody to help. By now it was around 11pm and with nowhere else to go we decided to sleep with the door and windows open which almost made it bearable. The next morning we woke up around 7am to the sounds of the construction site in front of the hotel but despite the noise it was better to keep everything open due to the smell. Around 9am the owner came by and apologized arguing this particular room had no sunlight and got very humid when it rained... What I told him is, if he knew the room could smell so bad, he shouldn't let it be rented. We were refunded with no hassle for the second night and left for another hotel.

Small, quiet hotel, a short walk into town
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. Location was great for us, a 10-15 minute walk into the centre of town, not far to the monkey forest or Campughan Ridge walk. The pool was small, with only 4 sun loungers. But this was never a problem. The pool was clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Loved my stay here, room was huge and great value for the price. Wayan the owner also drove me to and from the airport. He was super helpful booking tours and also made a delicious breakfast every morning. The location was also great too, 10 mins walking to the center of town and 10 mins from the monkey forest as well!

I'd highly recommend this boutique hotel.
We highly recommend this small boutique hotel. It's within walking distance of most city centre attractions. The room is huge and and nicely decorated, there lots of cabinets, tables and drawers to put away your things. Every room had a tub/shower combination. Lots of hot water. There's large balconies in front of every room, where they a serve you your choice of five different breakfasts menus daily, all are very good. The pool and landscaping are very nice. Wayan (the owner) is a great person, we hired him to do two day trips and then transport us to our next designation. He's a wonderful host, very personable, and an even better guide. He speaks very good English. Ubud is a cultural destination, and has lots to offer, but a good guide like Wayna really opens your eyes to this incredable area of Bali.

The location, gardens, pool were fantastic. The breakfast was great fresh fruit and eggs on toast. A few things I think could be improved on better showers, somewhere to sit inside the room and possibly a small fridge to keep some drinks cold. But overall fantastic staff

Off the primary beaten over crowded track, just...
Remembering Indonesian and Bali is a thrid world, developing country, but still they do have amazing 5 plus star hotels... but this ain't one of them. So the overall stay was nice, but there were a few details that should have been better. First, one of the pillows smelled as if it had been dropped in the toilet then layed on the bed... it really stank! The mosquito netting/drape around the bed at the lower end of it stank too. The drains were partially blocked, every time you wash your hands or shower the basin filled and stayed full for a while. With exception to the mentioned above it was a nice stay BUT: don't bother with the "superior" room as it IS NOT superior and I checked the other rooms. They just charge more for a master mosquito net around the bed!

Peaceful hotel just 15 min walking from Monkey F.
Beautiful hotel, huge room. We stayed in a fan room and would recommend to book the aircon because it was quite hot sometimes. We got 2 single beds but it was alright for us. Spotless room with very nice furniture. Lovely balcony with private table to have breakfast, by the way it has been the best hotel breakfast so far! So much food and so yummy, Wayan the cooker is the best on what he does and also super friendly and keen on sharing interesting things about his amazing culture! Would definitely come back!

Very loud construction - Avoid!
I arrived at 2pm to check in and found incredibly noisy construction work. The workmen had to actually find someone who worked for the hotel, (he was probably hiding from the noise!)This took about 10 minutes during which time I was subjected to screamingly loud grating, the sound of metal being cut. Horrendous noise and right below the room they were about the check me into! I had ironically requested a 'quiet room' and the hotel had decided not to warn me in advance of the construction on the ground floor of the hotel right below the room I would be given?! I think this shows a serious lack of integrity! I asked why they had not told me, the answer was 'oh, it only takes place from about 12 to about 5 pm'. I'm not sure what the 'about' meant but that is a significant part of the day to warn people coming to stay in advance before they arrive. The receptionist said if I wanted to cancel I didn't have to pay, they have however still charged me in full it seems?! I intend to try to get them to honour their word. The pool is VERY small, I think some clever photography has been used to make it look much larger than it actually is. Lots of large lizards running around the pool and jumping in it so if you don't like wildlife I wouldn't stay here. Good luck if you choose this place, I would not recommend it. It is tiny, like a homestay, claustrophobic almost. So noise, especially grinding metal is not exactly easy to just 'zone out' from!

A proper Indonesian experience
I would highly recommend staying here in Tanah Semujan. We had a slightly nervy start when after arriving was told that all the rooms were taken on our first night. But once we let the manager know, he made 100% sure to find us a nice room. After returning for the last 2 nights we had the best stay. Awesome experience, perfect for those that want to get off the touristic roads and experience Indonesia properly. This will exceed expectations.

Great stay in Ubud
Tanah Samujan is a quiet guesthouse steps away from rice fields and some great restaurants. My experience was very good, right from Wayan the owner picking me up at the airport. Totally hassle-free. The highlight of my stay here was the breakfast. The pineapple pancake is amazing! I would stay here again just to eat that one more time. The hot water flask outside each room with Balinese coffee and tea bags was a very nice touch. There is also a small pool, very nice to jump in on a hot day. And lots of shade and plants all round the bungalow. If you are looking for an inexpensive, comfortable place to stay, away from the craziness of Monkey Forest Rd, then Tanah Samujan is the place for you! I highly recommend it and would definitely stay here again.

Comfortable stay, excellent breakfast
The Hotel is located close to the Ubud Palace and about 15 mins walk from the commercial parts of Ubud. It is a nice hotel with a pool. The breakfast is especially excellent for the quality and quantity of fruits served. The owner Wayne is also helpful when he is around in sharing his tips on travel itineraries. The location is close to the monkey forest. The rooms are quite spacious and nice. Some issues - we had a leaky shower, and there isnt always a hotel staff available on call. Given the price, it is a good option.

Excellent breakfast, comfortable location
The hotel is comfortable - has a nice pool and spacious rooms. Breakfast is excellent - prepared fresh and with sumptuous fresh fruit. It is a slight distance (15 mins by walk) away from the main shopping and restaurants in Ubud - which makes it quiet and peaceful. The monkey forest is close by as well. There were a few niggles like a leaky shower and the staff isnt always around to attend. The owner though, when around, can give excellent advice on getting around the town.

Tucked away piece of paradise.
My review is based around the fact that the room costs around £25 per night, which is a bargain for what you get. First off the pictures of the room don't really do justice to the humongous bed. Literally the biggest one I've ever slept in and very comfy! It has a basic bathroom with shower and toilet, dated but functional. - Swimming pool area looks amazing and is perfect after a long day in Ubud. - Staff are extremely helpful and the owner makes you feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend. Breakfast - comes included and they offer a decent selection. (recommend the banana pancake) Word of warning though, it is popular and we were unfortunately not able to extend our stay.

Cosy family hotel
Cosy little hotel with pool just a short walk from the main street. Wayan and hos family are great hosts. A really good breakfast is served on the balcony every morning :) The bed was amazing, soft and cosy. We have been travelling for 4 months and this was the first time sleeping felt as good as at home. Many pretty good restaurants down the street which was great when we didn’t want to go for a long walk in the evening monsoon rain. The downsides: - Wi-fi isn’t very reliable. Sometimes superfast, other times barely working at all. - The shower isn’t reliable either. Most of the times we only had burning hot water, way to hot to shower in.
