I love Hotel Allen but feel it is desperately in need of money being spent on it ie new paint, refurbishment etc. When it rained the window leaked on to the single bed in my room so I'm happy there was nobody sleeping in that bed. But otherwise it was quiet, clean, excellent location, enjoyed swimming in the pool. If I had the money I'd buy it myself, sitting on a gold mine in the location etc

The property needs severe renovations absolutely disgusting room with plaster ofc the walls above skirting boards due to dampness coming through the wall from the bathroom. Mould on the bzthroom ceiling and mould on the bottom of the shower curtin. No internet available to guests, no sdvice given that the entry at nigth is in the street around the corner.... worst place I have ever stayed in... discusting room would not pass a health inspection, exhaust fan in bathroom not working but sign on mirror in bathroom requests that guests close bathroom door and use exhaust fan because the steam WILL set off the smoke detector... unbelievable.

I was there for 5 nights. I found the staff to be quite friendly. Overall, I was happy with my stay. My only gripe is the cleanliness. There was hair all over the floor and toilet lid (I’m bald so I know it wasn’t mine!), and when I spoke to ‘housekeeping’ they directed me to the vacuum cleaner for me to clean it up. I just didn’t think I should have to do that considering I was the guest and I didn’t just pay for 1 night.

It looks like something out of a movie in the 70's. Ceiling paint coming off. ripped carpet with staining. Pool unusable. Cant shut the fridge without a latch. Mould on the roof in the bedroom.

The room was dirty, including the inside of the fridge. The carpet and overall cleanliness of the accommodation was poor. There was a full domestic situation directly outside my room on one afternoon, which I’m not sure was resolved or not. The food was great, as were the staff though.

The shower was mouldy, bed wasn’t made properly, and my son in-law got questioned by a staff member about who he was and asked for his drivers licence for no reason. He was made feel very uncomfortable while staying there. I would definitely not recommend to anyone!!

Pretty crap.
It was very dirty, disgusting, we had no blankets, no hot water, garbage bin had moulded and food scraps from previous people. No tv working we did let the lady's in office know. But they were getting someone to fix it, but they never did. 2 nights with the kids who had no tv, no hot water, no blankets we had heater on all night. The freezer was not cleaned had ice cream melted although it. The pool was out of working order. Or closed until further notice.... We would have rathered pay extra to get a room with tv, warm water.

Good value so close to The Strand but bed uncomfortable and room smelled stale and was in a generally poor state of repair. Restaurant food was good, however.

We stayed for 3 nights. The accommodation was basic but clean. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were too soft. The shower was great. Unfortunately, although there was a toaster there were no plates or cutlery so that would have been a bit more convenient. We bought some from Woolies. We would certainly stay again. It was great value for money. The bistro was also excellent value for money - especially for 'seniors'.

The place was so run down Room stank of stale smoke, non smoking . Door was literally peeling off and toilet hadn't been flushed when i arrived. Needs a massive re furbishment. Would stay in my swag before staying here again. Health inspectors. Could look at this one and do something.

Should be reported to the health department. Room was disgusting-filthy and there was mould everywhere. Carpet was stained, tile’s cracked in the bathroom and even the bathroom door was damaged. Fridge leaked. Bars over the windows so in the event of a fire you would never get out. Pity because the rest of the facility was ok and the staff were great.

It’s not well maintained. During Easter holidays, our rooms were not cleaned, bed spread was not changed, bins were not emptied due to staff on Easter leave. But it’s a budget hotel near to strand. Other than staff on leave issues, it is okay as per the rent.

It’s not a 7.6/10 hotel.
The first room we was given smelt really bad and the shower was leaking and it sounded like it was on. The second room the windows were rotten and didn’t fit. I had a cockroach come out from under the skirting board and when it seen me it ran back. I had to use toilet paper to fill the hole that it came from. The bed was worn out and very uncomfortable and needed replacing. The shower room extractor fan didn’t work. The whole place was very neglected and needed a lot of TLC to bring it back to anything like normal. This hotel is down as a 7.6/10 and it’s definitely NOT. It’s run down and needs a lot of maintenance to get anywhere near a 7.6/10 rating.

Unfortunately the condition of the property was terrible. I'm all for cheap accommodation and know you get what you pay for but mould covering the roof and walls is more of a health risk and I'm not exaggerating.

Great staff making the most of a hotel that needs some maintenance. Great location, great bistro, enjoyed the pool and gardens. The room needed work but for the price could not expect more. A coat of paint, carpet and electrical upgrades would go a long way. Lots of parking, easy checkin.
