Visit this sophisticated western ward of Tokyo for atmospheric temples, exquisite art museums, coastal parks, high-end shopping and child-friendly entertainment.

Minato (also called Minato City) has attractions for all ages, ranging from architectural and religious landmarks to world-class art and fashion. Enjoy panoramic city views from the observation decks. Cross an iconic bridge to an island packed with beach parks and entertainment centers.

Among the many striking landmarks is Zojoji Temple, the seat of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism. It houses the 400-year-old Sangedatsumon gate and Mausoleum of Tokugawa Shoguns. The hilly and landscaped grounds of adjacent Shiba Park shelter the Shiba Tōshōgū Shrine. Admire the park’s Momiji-dani ravine and Momiji Waterfall.

Magnificent views await visitors at the Tokyo Tower, which was inspired by the Eiffel Tower. Ponder different perspectives from the 490-foot-high (150-meter) Main Deck and the 820-foot-high (250-meter) Top Deck. Foot Town occupies the tower’s lower levels, with cafés, shops and a theme park dedicated to Japanese manga.

Explore a city within a city at the Roppongi Hills multi-use complex. The 54-level Mori Tower dominates the complex and has varied retail and dining opportunities. Scrutinize works by contemporary artists at the Mori Art Museum. The Tokyo City View observation deck provides another chance for bird’s-eye city views.

In stylish Akasaka, devotees gather at peaceful Nogi Shrine, while a hip crowd frequents bars and slick malls. Relax at a beer garden at ARK Hills or attend classical concerts at Suntory Hall. View rotating exhibitions at Suntory Museum of Art.

The futuristic Rainbow Bridge, which is illuminated at night, crosses Tokyo Bay to Odaiba island. Picnic, walk and watch sunsets at Odaiba Seaside Park, Odaiba Marine Park and Shiokaze Park. Spot Mount Fuji in the distance while riding the Daikanransha Ferris Wheel and shop at AQUA CiTY and VenusFort. Enjoy endless child-friendly fun at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center, Madame Tussauds Tokyo and Tokyo Water Science Museum.

Minato is the neighborhood immediately south of Chiyoda City and east of Shibuya City. Use trains and the subway to travel throughout the ward.
