Thank God for The Southern Wind! Still offering decent rates, in the BEST location. The rooms are clean and the staff are excellent. Be warned that you really cannot get a hold of anyone until the day before or so of your stay. Someone will call you out of the blue from Saint Augustine a few days before your stay, lol, so answer your phone. Also, there are a lot of steps up down and all around in the house, so it is not for disabled people. Other than not being able to get a hold of staff prior to your stay, it is a wonderful place to stay, and has two excellent restaurants within steps (across the street), and a coffee shop down the street,(there are several excellent Cuban restaurants with EXCELLENT espresso within walking distance). Downtown historic Saint Augustine has many good restaurants, some which are not really advertised and are just in little holes in the wall, so you really have to walk the streets up and down and back-and-forth to find places of interest, and then try to get a hold of somebody to see when they're open, lol. I am local, and as a special note, I would suggest if you can walk a good distance, make sure that you walk all through south town., too. Don't stay on St. George. The best rooms are the two facing the street, Cordova, one is called the veranda, but I don't remember the name of the second one

Situated within easy walking distance of old town St. Augustine, the BnB is a very old house which appears to have been a BnB for a long time. We never met the owner of the property and only met the woman staffing the morning breakfast. The room was not as pictured. It was VERY basic. Accessed from outside, we did not interact with other guests except at breakfast. We never received any kind of greeting or info about the property, just a key and were on our own. The bed was comfortable enough but with only thin blankets, very basic, thin pillows all which seemed very old as if little investment was made to make guests feel welcome and valued. A comfortable chair would have been nice, too, instead of camping on the bed! BUT, the location was great and free parking a great convenience.

The location is great but the facility is very tired and run down. The staff, while friendly, did not seem to be in charge. The info about breakfast, which turned out to be fine, was minimal. The room and bath were OK but the Garden Room was no where near a garden as the land around the building was decrepit. Old mattresses were proped up in the parking area. Alll in all a dismal spot.

We have stayed here 20 times over the years. Unfortunately the Fern room had no A.C. in it. I mentioned it to a staff member and she took the time to show me where the thermostat was and how to adjust it. But, to no avail. There was no air getting to this room. Super hot. Hard to sleep. Sigh.

A very sweet place in an excellent location near the old historic district. However, the room was cold as a meat locker and was only adjustable in the hallway for everyone. I did that, but it didn’t make much difference. The blinds didn’t work well, and the windows were not openable to regulate the temperature. The people were lovely though, and the breakfast was fine.

Our room definitely needs an update. The mattress was old and saggy. The bathroom was very small, and the tub/shower was really showing its age . Breakfast was very sparse, for a B&B, not what we expected at all !!! The dining room table wobbled something awful,as well…The parking at the back of house was full of an old mattress, sofa, boards, and weeds. I took pictures, that I was hoping to attach, but it doesn’t look like I can submit them here …. Very disappointed with this property for the money that they charged. This was definitely a disappointment. Would not stay here again

I liked the old town feel to the inn. I did not like not having access to the downstairs part of the inn. We stayed in the Garden Room. The porch area was lovely LaSarah ( I think that was her name) was outstanding. So accommodating.

Great location but lots of dumpster noise in the early hours as parking lot across the street has 5 huge ones that are there due to construction I believe ( hopefully not permanent) and they get emptied daily!

The property was good location that and the hot tub in the suite were all that was good the breakfast or lack of breakfast was awful. Stale bread and someone who could not even speak English I asked questions the evening before and the inn keeper acted like it was a bother and I should have known how the place worked and their schedule ummm I’ve never been here. Everything is in need of repair and updating.

Excellent location!
We wanted to visit St. Augustine for the Nights of Lights event and this inn is in a great location to walk around St. George’s street. The room we booked (Porcelain) was nice and cozy, and it was perfect for our 1 night stay. Robin was an excellent hostess and we didn’t encounter any issues. She was very helpful and communicative. Overall, this is a great place to stay if you want to be minutes away from the fort and all the local restaurants, historic sites, and shops.

RUN, cancel or don’t book while you can. My husband and I go to Saint Augustine at least once a year and try out different bed and breakfast hotels. This one was the most disappointing hotel we have ever stayed in. There was no welcoming wine in the room like at other bed and breakfast in the area. The room was dated and not as advertised. The bed was sunken in terribly on my side that I had to cuddle to my husband’s side. There was no reason in getting a king bed because you couldn’t use half of it because of the condition. In addition, the fan was wobbling overhead, the jetted tub had maintenance issues, and the sink would not drain. The room’s temperature was not regulated and it was burning hot in the room. There was nothing they could do because of the new owners not investing in updating the central air unit. So our particular room either gets really cold in the summer or unbearably hot in the winter. We could not sleep with any covers because we were sweating. There is no social hour as advertised. There are no cookies, wines, teea, or anything placed out for the guests during a social hour. The new owners have decided they did not want to continue this tradition anymore, but do not tell their customers before arriving. Finally, there is no hot breakfast. They have discontinued this as well. Why they are labeling it. A bed-and-breakfast is beyond me. Do not stay here. It was the worst bed-and-breakfast we have ever stayed in Saint Augustine.

St Augustine anniversary trip
The B&B is nice but our room felt like an after thought! We looked in other rooms and they were much nicer! We stayed in the Flower room and it met our basic needs.

We really enjoyed staying here! Robin, the hostess, is lovely, very helpful, and kind. We are close to historic DT, a great coffee shop up in walking distance, and other restaurants. Parking across street is convenient. Breakfast is basic, but good.

Great trip, very nice room and overall great experience. Only wish there was a thermostat as heat got stuck on high all night and it was impossible to to get comfortable, let alone get any sleep.

The location is walkable to the majority of the main St A attractions. Robin the Innkeeper was so attentive and cared about all of her guests. The building is old but the charm is amazing. The lighting in the back of the property needed some repairs but nothing major. There is no handicapped accessible entrances in this inn. You must be able to walk up stairs. I have a prosthetic leg and was able to manage just fine, but a wheelchair would not fair well here. I highly recommend this Inn and can't wait to return some day.

We had a wonderful stay at Southern Wind. The location is the best. You are central to the Historic downtown, which includes numerous really good restaurants and pubs. Shopping is right there within the dining area. You can walk to museums, the College, the waterfront and the Fort. The care given to the patrons at Southern Wind is true Southern Hospitality. Robin, the Inn Keeper, is exceptionally friendly and attentive. Her breakfasts are sooo good. It’s like being at your best friends house for the weekend.
