The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we travel, but it hasn't halted our desire to explore. Here are some tips on how to navigate travel's new challenges:

• Understand what rules and restrictions apply to both your origin and destination. It may not be possible to travel depending on local circumstances, so check government advisories before booking.
• Keep your face mask on during airport screening. A TSA officer will require you to temporarily lower your mask for ID purposes.
• Avoid handing your boarding pass (electronic or paper) directly to a TSA employee. Instead, place your pass on the scanner and then hold it up for the agent to visually inspect it.
• You're allowed to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your carry-on luggage. This will need to be taken out for X-ray scanning.
• To minimize handling during screening, put items such as your phone, keys and wallet into your carry-on instead of into the bins.
• Transport your food items in a clear plastic bag and also put them in a screening bin. Keeping your food separate from your carry-on makes it less likely that a TSA officer will need to open and touch your bag for inspection.
