We heard from staff at the Soo Locks Park that they are pretty lenient on putting money in the meters on weekend. Maybe it was because we were visiting in the 'off season' (after labor day)

I would highly recommend the boat tour of the locks. There is also a visitors center across the street from the hotel, surrounded by park and a viewing ramp that is wonderful.

If possible, be sure to cross the high bridge between the U.S. and Canada which goes right over the locks. It is a great view of the area looking south.
