"Alvøen is the site one of Norway’s oldest industrial communities and one of the best preserved industrial locations. In 1626, King Christian IV of Denmarkgranted the right to establish a gunpowder mill on the site. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1733, but rebuilt. Alvøen Manor and the factory were opened as a museum (Alvøen Hovedbygning) in 1983, as a branch of the West Norway Museum of Decorative Art. It is now[when?] managed by the Bergen City Museum. "Overpriced and overrated. Great location and lovely breakfast in a beautiful room however staff were not friendly or accommodating and room was nothing special. I was initially given a room that hadn’t been cleaned and was unmade from previous guests! Then a room key that didn’t work. I was then told because of the inconvenience I could upgrade…. If I paid for it!!! Save yourself the disappointment and book to stay elsewhere. "
