Venture to the Sandbridge Pier, also known as the Little Island Fishing Pier, a favorite fishing spot for locals and visitors. Ride the tram to the marshes and open waters of nearby Back Bay National Wildlife Park. This freshwater refuge, encompassing more than 9,250 acres (3,740 hectares), borders the Atlantic Ocean on the east and Back Bay on the west. Look for snow geese and a number of different migratory ducks in fall. Go for a leisurely hike as you try to spot threatened and endangered species, including peregrine falcons and bald eagles. For something a little more active, try kayaking or cycling in the park.
Sandbridge Beach is located 15 miles (24 kilometers) south of the main Virginia Beach resort area. Drivers will find several parking lots within walking distance of the beach, all of which charge fees seasonally. Enjoy your visit to this tranquil stretch of sandy coastline.
