Perfect location. A block away from the beach and lots of restaurants and shops in the area. The room was modern and very clean with plush mattress and pillows. Had a nice pool and seating area to just relax. Will be back for sure !

The place is great, the pool, location, the design, everything is so nice BUT the check in. And to lock your room you have to turn the handle up, lock it and then let go (it was a little tricky to figure this out). Beside that I really recommend station here, it is quiet, near a lot of places, clean and super pretty.

Subpar

Room was small and had a cold appearance. There was no rug or chair. The bed creaked and felt unstable. The bathroom door was not secure and constantly opened without force. The outdoor area is fine. The other visitors were very loud but I could only hear them because the walls are extremely thin. If you knock on the wall or make too heavy of a step, it sounds like a “boom”. This place is more like an Airbnb than hotel. It does not have the resources of a hotel. The location is the best part and I was very satisfied with the commute. I would not book again but if you need a daily cheap stay then it may be worth it.

Very spacious room. Very kind staff. The full kitchen is outdoors and a shared space. Comes with free drinks. The bathroom window has no curtains or blinds. Parking is street parking. Pool was great, but there are not lawn chairs.

Great location within walking distance of the beach and nearby restaurants/nightlife. We didn’t use the pool but the shared lounge area was nice. The pool was underwhelming compared to photos. The doors to the rooms were very tricky to lock. Also, although the rooms were clean they could use hooks to hang towels as well as additional storage space in the room. Everyone was very friendly and helpful! Overall, great place if you’re looking for a less expensive option.

I enjoyed my stay, great price

My boyfriend and I stayed in a room here for a weekend and we actually enjoyed it. The location was honestly perfect, the beach was a 5 minute walk, tons of food and stores everywhere, and came with netflix. I also liked how small and cute the room was. Place was clean but could have been cleaner tbh. Also, loved the tile on the floor, but did not love the open shower concept. Water got everywhere. I would recommend a stay here specially for couples, but just bring your own cleaning supplies and and be ready to search for towels cuz there's not really any housekeeping contact.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Close to the airport, super close to the beach, lots to eat around in the area. If you want to visit other parts of the city, it’s pretty easy with Uber (most rides were about $5). Think about this place like a mix between a boutique hotel and an Airbnb. The kitchen you see is outdoors and shared and I loved that unique touch. There are two fridges, a restroom, and a laundry room all in the open space. staying here gave us a unique perspective on the area- we met some great neighbors who were staying at the mare. Although the staff you see primarily on location speak Spanish- they were extremely helpful and patient with the language barrier. My only suggestion would be to add a foot wash somewhere in the area.. I could tell people were using the pool to rinse sand off after visiting the beach. If you can, definitely book a room with a terrace- that was my favorite part. Would definitely stay here again!

Best Place for the Money

I've stayed at Mare for 5 different weeks this year, staying a different rooms (#33, 32, 27, 22, 21). It's my go to place in San Juan. Having traveled for 30 years on business, Mare meets and exceeds my expectations. For the rate, you cannot find a better deal. The hotel is clean, modern furnishings and has all you need if looking for a basic service hotel and not wanting to pay resort fees and other hidden costs. It is located on great, quiet residential street. You can feel like a local. Once you find your morning coffee and breakfast hangout (Regina across the street), you can head out to the beach (down the street) or venture further to Condado (walking 10 to 15 mins). I rent a car while in Puerto Rico and have no trouble finding street parking (avoid exorbitant hotel overnight parking fees). If you are expecting a pool boy or room service, this is not your place.

Stay was okay, very loud as the rooms are very close. The running water kept going out for hours, this is something guest should be aware of as you are dirty from Beach or just hot weather. The light in the bathroom was halfway working and the blinds completely broke on us. Over all I’m giving a three because it was close to the beach and nice restaurants and coffee shops

Pleasant Surprise

The room was a nice size we got a queen bed. My only take away was the small bathroom. You could tell it’s an older building a few minor cosmetic issues in the room but that didn’t bother us. Pool area is nice as well looks like the picture. The beach was 8 min walk and Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance as well. We would stay here again.

Nice, but the door locks are impossible

Liked the room, pool was lovely, bed was fine, balcony was awesome and the AC was chill; however, there were notes in their email about the "European style" door locks. I've stayed in dozens of rooms in Europe and I've never had a door lock this difficult. A coule times I just gave up and left with the door unlocked. I don’t think it was just the lock, it seems my door was not shutting properly to begin with. This is a good place, but this is really an issue they should address.

Hidden gem

Very basic room. No cable BUT was two blocks from beach and close to restaurants and bars. It’s definitely a hidden gem and I would definitely stay again.

Great for the price!

This hotel is in a great location and is just a block or so away from the beach. The pool is beautiful and the rooms feel small but aesthetic. There was also plenty of towels, a washer/dryer and some free water/sodas/sparkling waters. The only thing I would change is to add a few hooks but otherwise a great find in a great location!

Nice spot.

Really nice spot. Basic rooms but very clean. Comfortable bed. The shared kitchen and pool area are great. Wifi is strong thought the property. The beach is a 5 min walk and you're surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants. Just far enough away from the main roads so it's a bit quieter. Old San Juan is under $20 Uber/taxi away. Very easy check in/out.

Odd but it works!

Not a typical hotel; there is no front desk and maids did not come. But the room has enough basics and beach towels, was lovely and comfortable. The property was very nice and even came with a cat. Loved the pool. Great location, next to all the restaurants you could want and 2 blocks from a beautiful beach.

We are so glad we chose Stay at Mare! The distance to the beach was very short and convenient. Even though the beach was down the street, the pool was also awesome for us to get in after we left the beach. It was also a 15 minute walk to a ton of restaurants up the street and about a 10 minute drive to Old San Juan. The Uber was very cheap in Puerto Rico and they easily picked us up/dropped us off. The rooms were clean and Esmeralda (management) was so friendly and helpful. The back area with the kitchen the free waters in the fridge was a huge plus!

Clean and efficient. Great mattress in my room...room smelled awesome too.... Best AC Unit I ever had in my life... just because of this I will go back. But in addition it's well located. Too bad some guests don't clean up after themselves but the place gets cleaned several times a day anyway... Rooms could use a few more wall shelves...it would help a lot..
