A magical place in beautiful setting with unbelievable views. Lovely, charming staff and managers made everything easy and enjoyable. Excellent food with multiple choices and a tasting menu with wine pairings that was perfect each night, a great surprise given the small size of the lodge. Definitely one of my most memorable stays! Worthy of the cost.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ From the moment we arrived at Matakauri Lodge to the warm farewell at departure, the level of service and care we received was beyond anything we expected — truly world class. Every detail felt thoughtful, personal, and seamless, making our entire stay not just luxurious, but deeply restorative. The food was absolutely exceptional — each dish a celebration of flavour and artistry. Every meal felt like an experience in itself, paired beautifully with the surrounding views and gracious hospitality. Our room was nothing short of magical. Waking up to those breathtaking views was a joy each morning, and the luxurious bathroom added a touch of indulgence to every day. The bed — oh, the bed! — felt like floating on a cloud, making restful sleep effortless and dreamy. We have absolutely no complaints… except that we had to leave. But one thing is certain: we will return. Matakauri Lodge is not just a destination — it’s a sanctuary. A place to recharge, reconnect, and remember how beautiful life can be. Until next time.

Great Staff!

The restaurant servers were EXCELLENT! Jamie was great. Gabriela is the person that made our stay memorable. What an asset to the brand! Personable and warm, made a connection with every guest, yet very professional. A hard combination to find in a manager. She is ehat Rosewood wants to project to its guests sll rolled up in one. The overall service was superb and what is expected at Rosewood. It is very isolated and not close to anywhere except by a 15 min taxi ride, so do take that into consideration. Location is right on the lake with fantastic views. The food was very good. The produce was of the highest quality. The meats all a bit gamey tasting. Not sure what that was about. The rooms are not what I expect from Rosewood and need an update. Housekeeping did keep it clean, but often forgot water and toilet paper. Would I oay the rate you are currently asking? No.

Honestly this is an amazing hotel, and we definitely recommend. It is a bit pricey but if you are looking for a relaxed break, this is definitely the hotel you want to go to. All other hotels are more convenient for doing activities as you are closer to town, though this is an amazing hotel to just take a break, or for holiday home if you have a big family. The staff here are honestly so helpful and treat you like family, they all take care of you to your personalised likings. This is also the cleanest hotel i’ve ever stayed in, along with breathtaking views right near the lake. Food is amazing too, along with helpful amenities such as the gym and sauna. There is also quite a lot to do here , you can go to the jetty where you see breathtaking views along with a hike around this area, you can go to the library, go to the gym, and much more. I would also like to say that the massages at this place are honestly amazing and definitely recommend getting it if you are staying at Matakauri. Otherwise, this is an amazing hotel, it is a bit pricey but compared to all other hotels in queenstown this is the best one and there is no doubt about that. Here at Rosewood Matakauri you defined get what you paid for, along with kindness from the staff, always checking up on you! Definitely recommend and once again thank you so much to the staff for being so helpful with everything and making our stay at Rosewood Matakauri and very memorable experience! Thank you Rosewood Matakauri!
