Hotel updated, restaurants and bars nice. First night, we had no heat and our room was 61 degrees. In the morning, we were moved to a new room, but no other compensation was offered. Staff was pleasant, but cant recommend the hotel.

The room was very clean and modern. The staff were very friendly. Their digital key card and digital check out was very convenient for us. Will definitely stay here again on our next visit to NYC!

The room was well designed, clean, and had a decent view as promised. The beds were also super comfy and they included two complimentary waters in the room which was a nice touch not everywhere offers. The staff was helpful. The only downside was that I’m guessing the heating system resets when the room is not in use and I’m guessing the room had been empty during the snow storm so our room was incredibly cold. We cranked up the heat and left for 8 hours and still when we got back it was super cold. Not fun after a long day. Not entirely the property’s fault and I appreciate the energy efficiency but felt like a bit of an oversight. They also operate on a keyless system where you use your phone to open the door. It timed out while we were out and we couldn’t get into our room at the end of the night (they were nice enough to offer us late check out for the trouble). Again, eco friendly but added an extra step to the stay. All the same good property and good location so would definitely stay again. Probably a great hotel for the summer where the design leading to less isolation would help in the NYC muggy heat.

Our toilet didn't flush, we noticed immediately after check-in. Went out to dinner and told the "front desk" (man with a laptop downstairs, I note this because it seemed no one worked at this hotel) the situation to which he told me he would handle. We returned from dinner and the toilet still didn't work. When I brought this to his attention he told me there was nothing he could do and no other rooms were available. This place is a joke, don't stay here.

I don't review much, but this one deserved it. Pros: Some of the night staff were very kind and the rooms were attractive. Cons: 1) Location - this hotel seems to be on the edge of a gentrified area. There are some good restaurants, but I definitely did not feel safe walking at night. Also, it is located in the Lower East Side. Prepare for a 20-30 minute subway ride one-way or an expensive Uber ride to see any of the main tourist attractions. 2) Noise - there is quite a bit of street noise because of the local bars. During the day there was a lot of construction noise which was very loud. 3) Cleanliness- first day the room was great and very clean. Second day they didn't clean the room despite their policy and I had to request towels and.my trash removed. Third day, I specifically requested the room be serviced and they did, but sprayed some awful deoderizer all over the bedding, which was very strange. It was a horrid, super cheap-smelling musk scent. It was so strong that I asked late at night to change rooms. They had one other room and it had the same scent and all the pillows smelled like old hair. I also woke up with a breakout on my face which I haven't had in 20 years. So I checked out early. My guess is they have some excellent cleaning staff and some cleaning staff that clearly cut corners. 4) Management was not honest. They promised a refund for the one night that I checked out early for all the hassle, but it never showed up. I would just recommend another hotel.

Excellent apart from a few very minor details. No soap dispenser in the shower. TV only working with apps. Cups for tea and coffee were not replenished. Late start for breakfast.

This place was awesome! I’d been at a different boutique hotel on the lower east side for a business trip during the week but moved to the Merchant for the weekend because the rates were better. Not only was it cheaper, it was far nicer, more spacious, more sleek / modern, AND this was even after upgrading to a corner room with a city view. Highly recommend!

Booked last minute for a work trip and was pleasantly surprised with staff! I wasn’t feeling well and showed up to the hotel rather early, explained my situation and without a doubt the gentleman at reception helped me out and gave me a room as soon as it became available. The cafe downstairs has delicious drinks, and room was clean! Will def be booking here again
