This is a remarkable historical property. The view from our room was outstanding. The cherry blossoms outside the tea room/bar were breathtaking. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable stay. The food in all three restaurants was great. Keep in mind this hotel’s design is not the current grey and white chic. The style is from another era and that is what is so lovely about it.

A lovely old hotel with lots of history. Probably our favourite stay during our Japan trip. In the old wing the walls are a bit thin so soundproofing is not perfect but that's the price you pay for the hotel's history and character. Wonderful breakfasts and impeccable service.

A very special place adjacent to Nara Park. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing and delicious. A very comfortable bed and spacious room. There is also a free bus shuttle service between the hotel and the train station.

Stayed in a traditional Japanese room. Very comfortable. Breakfast was included, we picked the Japanese breakfast, and it was delicious. The only downsides were that you had to pick a time before 7 PM to have your futons set out, and you had to pick breakfast times at check in.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful! Beautiful hotel with the kindest staff. The breakfast is absolutely delicious. The grounds surrounding the hotel are beautiful and peaceful. Nara Deer park is just a few steps away. They have a bus that will pick you up at the train station and take you to the hotel. This bus will also take you to the shopping district and pick you up again. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed. I highly reccomend this historic hotel and we plan to come back and stay again in the future.

The hotel is in a good location for the principal attractions of Nara. I was very impressed by the size of the hotel. I believe there are better options for a lower price.

We stayed in one of the traditional rooms and it was lovely; Old Japan décor of the Meiji era, but with all the mod cons. Wonderful atmosphere in the common areas. Excellent staff. Perfect end to our three weeks in Japan.

My family have been staying at the Nara Hotel for 3 generations. I have finally experienced it for myself as an adult and was not disappointed. The property is stunning and steeped in history. The location is perfect for enjoying Nara park and Sanjo-dori. The staff are kind, the amenities are generous and high qualities and the beds are cloud-like. Please note the hotel is a historical property and should be respected as such. Loud noises are not welcomed and obviously there is no smoking. I think thats very reasonable considering this isn't an average modern hotel.

The standard rooms are a little dated and the bathroom is very small with no counter space. We had to upgrade to a suite ahich was very good but expensive! The restaurant food was OK but nothing really special, even though the staff do try to cooy western style. The hotel staff were superbly helpful in every way to accomodate our needs. Fairly close to Nara Park although when were there in August it was too hot to do much walking. Useful shuttle to both Nara stations. Overall, a very traditional Japanese hotel with fairly rigid standards, good service but expensive.

This is one of the mos beautiful hotels I have stayed at. The Japanese style suite with ofuro was a treat along with tea on my balcony as I watched the Nara deer as they strolled part of the ground of the hotel. Emperor’s have stayed here! The history is special. Thank you Nara Hotel for making my stay so special 💖

This is a hotel in the grand style. It won't suit the chrome and glass anonymous i-Phone crowd. Service is as one once expected in grand hotels, so greatly lacking today. The dining room is a pleasure in itself, worthy of a Michelin star or two. The Nara Hotel is a refuge in a soulless world, an older, welcoming place. But, whether you like it will depend upon you. Do you still know how to live? It is called savoir faire.

The room and food were wonderful. The only down side was the staff service. They were very kind, but lunchtime sandwiches took over 30 minutes to arrive and it took 20 minutes to get a cup of tea at breakfast.

Disregard Any negative comments regarding the Nara Hotel. From boarding the hotel shuttle bus, to departing after two nights, not one negative thing happened during our stay. The bell men immediately carry your bags to the Front Desk for check in. Our room, on the second floor was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. We had three Adults, with one rollaway. The Restroom was large with an executive model of the fabulous Japanese lavatory. We dined one evening in the Japanese Dining Room, Outstanding. Two of our traveler’s are sensitive to smoke door and could detect not a trace. When in Nara, do yourself a tremendous favour and stay at the Nara Hotel.

Superb "classic" property with vast rooms by Japanese standards, impeccable service in a quiet area yet not far from the action of Nara. Food is excellent overall, the only exception being the "American Breakfast" that is sub-par; go for the Japanese one instead!
