This stay has been the highlight of our trip to Japan. The family who own and run this Inn are so kind and helpful, the rooms are spacious and immaculate, and the food was delicious. The onsens and the massage chair was the icing on the cake. If you are heading to the Hakuba area, don't hesitate to book at this place. You will not be disappointed.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
This place was immaculate. I’ve never stayed in a place so nice with the nicest people that takes such pride in what they do. Joe and his wife are amazing hosts
The owner and his wife were amazing! They assisted us with everything from helping us get tickets for the bus, dinner reservations, in room massage and assisting with ski equipment and return. The breakfast was beautiful, hearty and delicious. The rooms were pristine, comfortable and clean. The hotel is in the center of the town so easy assess to stores and restaurant. They also have a beautiful outdoor and two indoor onsen that were spectacular after a long day of skiing!
We loved our stay so much! The hotel is immaculate and the service outstanding. The hosts are super attentive and communicative. The decor is purposefully done and beautiful, it’s a high attention to detail. Breakfast (and dinner) are amazing and consist of
This was the most amazing stay we have ever experienced in all our travels around the world. The hotel is so beautiful and perfectly balances a traditional Japanese Ryoken feel with modern amenities and very comfortable rooms. Our family group stayed in two rooms which both had tatami mats, in room baths, very comfortable lounge areas and beds, washing machine and dryer, massage chair, and many extra amenities like filter coffee, complimentary cold drinks, toothbrushes etc. We dined in the on-site restaurant for breakfast which was a beautiful two course experience with fresh fruit, and amazing food. There are 3 private onsens and they are extremely clean and very beautifully presented for.a lovely relaxing experience after skiing. There is ample parking on site. The owners were so kind and thoughtful helping us with organising to get our ski gear returned and advice on things to see and do. We will be recommending this hotel to all our friends and family and will stay here again when we return to Hakuba.
Kunugi Relaxation was amazing. The owners were lovely and our room was gorgeous and immaculately clean. The open air onsen was stunning. The breakfast was incredible. This accommodation was a highlight of our trip. I only wish we stayed longer. Highly recommend.
Staying at Kunugi's was one of highlights of my entire trip to Japan. The hosts are remarkable-so kind, generous and helpful. I felt like I was coming home everyday after a day on the mountain and it was very peaceful at this property and in my cabin. It was unique, very cozy, clean, and I appreciated the kitchen, the washer/dryer combo, all the appliances (heaters, fridge, humidifier, air purifier, towel warmer, soaker tub, and the 3 onsens! I booked an extra day and I'm so glad I did.
I highly recommended this lovely property and truly adore the hosts. Thank you so much!
Quite possibly the nicest hotel experience I've had. The staff was incredibly kind and hospitable (helping with suitcases, calling taxis, the private onsen luxurious, and the room well-appointed with thoughtful amenities like a massage chair and bluetooth speakers. The breakfast is a must. I only stayed one night but already felt incredibly refreshed. 10/10 would return.
We had a wonderful experience at Kunugi and recommend it wholeheartedly. The rooms and property were super cute and extremely well-equipped, with everything we could imagine needing. The onsen baths, and especially the outdoor rotenburo were special because they were private and my partner and I could enjoy together. The breakfast was delicious and healthy, with a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. Finally, the staff were excellent, professional and friendly, the kind of service I'd get at a five-star hotel.
We couldn’t recommend this place more! If there was a 12 on the scale we would have rated it 12 on everything.
The hosts were the most helpful we have ever experienced - helped us with everything from booking taxis, recommending where to ski for the day as well as printing manuals for how to prepare various noodles we had bought in the convenience store :) The room was beautiful, clean and felt very cozy and authentic. The breakfast was a culinary experience every day not to mention the onsen that became a highlight each afternoon. We will for sure come back here when we come to Hakuba next time!
Beautifully renovated rooms, with impeccable service. I’ve never experienced such high end, quality service. So much attention to detail and the private onsen was amazing. Not to mention the breakfast was spectacular as well! I would definitely go back here and probably only stay here when I go back to Hakuba.
Easily the best place I have stayed in in my life. If I could give this more than 5 stars I definitely would. Everything about this place was excellent - breakfast was perfect, Joe and his wife were so accommodating and helpful (they dropped us off at the ski resort on the first night!) Everything was amazing
My family and I had a wonderful 3 night stay. The owners and staff are warm and welcoming. The space is beautiful and calming. And, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast every morning. The private onsen is a must do. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the Hakuba area!
This hotel is Awesome!! From the time we walked I. To the moment we left!! The host will do everything in his power to make your sat amazing!! The rooms were very comfy and very traditional!! Very close to the bus stop to go to the mountains! Overall a great experience and we will definitely be coming back!!!
My partner and I had a very special stay at Kunugi. The hosts were very thoughtful and helped us with our rental gear, where to ski and even drove us to the bus station. The rooms are so clean and cozy. The private open air onsen after skiing all day was incredible. The hosts prepared us the most beautiful 5 course dinner for our last night, our favorite dinner in japan! We will be back!
Best hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life. Host was amazing and couldn’t ask for better service. Hotel was beautiful and had amazing amenities. I would absolutely recommend and stay here again.
Switched to the suite room mid-way through my trip. Spacious room (loft) with an en-suite jacuzzi, although my preference still leans towards using the onsen. Ryoji and Junko are the perfect hosts and their attention to detail was next to none. Beyond the excellent recommendations provided by Ryoji and the great daily breakfast by Junko - we also tried their dinner menu with wine pairing which was truly an unforgettable experience. Will definitely stay here again on my next trip back.
Second time visiting Herb Kunugi after chancing upon the place the year before. Stayed in the twin room which was very comfortable and clean. Incredible breakfast and relaxing in the onsen after a day out on the slopes was exactly what the doctor ordered. Good location located 3mins walk to the bus stop servicing the wider Hakuba Valley. 5mins walk to the restaurants in Echoland.
