We were impressed with Shane and how quick to help he was with anything needed and the rest of the team were really friendly. The included breakfast was a nice touch, if you want it and they are willing to make something you if ask.
However, it was not what we were expecting and that’s why the low score from us. The place is listed as having amenities that don’t exist (swimming pool, onsen, bar which is under construction). None of these things exist. The property is very much a work in progress, with things like no lights over a dark staircase, holes in the wall in our room and a leaking toilet. A big thing for us was the fact that we got no room key, we were under the impression that it was more of a hotel than it actually was. Instead it was like a backpackers hostel. If it had been listed as such, we would not have stayed. There was a communal lounge, but as we wanted to spend time just the two of us, we didn’t want to mingle with strangers to get to watch Tv of an evening. The bedroom wasn’t nice to hang out in either, so we went out. Overall, we were disappointed with the stay and the cost for such a basic accommodation that doesn’t match ANY listing on any website. We suggest you check and update the listing to give a more honest and accurate view of what people are paying for in advance. As I’ve said, Shane was lovely, but we felt a bit mislead about what to expect before arriving.
Shane (owner) was very accommodating and helpful, overall good guy. Everyone that works there was equally helpful and in a good mood. Awesome breakfast every morning. The lodge is a short 5 to 10 minute walk to town, and to the lifts. Would definitely stay at Alpine Lodge again.

Shayne really made this accommodation worth the visit. He’s very hospitable, knowledgeable and all round a great host. I think his breakfasts every morning were the extra mile and really great way to start a day out in the snow. Some work to be done to the place but I think the positives outweighed these details.

Staff was friendly and breakfast was great. Place was more of a hostel vibe with limited amenities. Washroom was small with drainage problems. Beds were comfy but rooms were cold. No hot tubs or pools on site but available in surrounding hotels. Walking distance to the main strip to eat but you need reservations for almost oll restaurants. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Overall place was dated but ok to stay in if you're planning to be outdoors for the day. fairly
This is not a hotel. It is closer to a hostel or backpackers. Owner and staff were kind and helpful. But the facilities were very much lacking. Fireplace/woodstove is not vented properly and the whole places is smoky. Bathroom was freezing as not heated and in need of repairs. No temperature control in your room so can be very hot. Overall properties needs a lot of repairs.
Kind and helpful staff. Good location in a fairly quiet area and at a reasonable price. Kids had a great time too.
Only way the experience could have been better is if Expedia had not caused so many problems in the booking process.

As an Aussie skier abroad, this was an easy entry into skiing in Hakuba. The host is accommodating, English speaking and knowledgeable about the area. Comfortable enough place but in need of some work.
Hakuba is a long way from Tokyo so keep in mind the travel times and perhaps get a car at Nagano if you want to visit multiple slopes in the valley in a short time. Give yourself an extra 3 days in your stay.
Theer was only 1 person running Alpine Lodge for 30 guests, so room was not ready for check-in until 6.30pm, and the host was unreliable for promised pick-up and drop offs, so we had to pay for taxi's both ways. Property generally old and run down, and needs some significant maintenance, cleaning and clearing of clutter.
I booked what was falsely advertised as a 5-bed, 1-bath family suite but was given a much smaller 2-bed room. To make things worse, the bathroom door was locked from the inside and completely unusable for our entire stay. I notified the manager, Shane immediately, and while he promised to fix it that day, it was never addressed. We had no access to a toilet, sink, or shower—something essential, especially during a snowboarding trip. When I brought it up again, he apologized but said he was too busy. On top of all that, the room was freezing at night he said they have floor heating, which barely works. I expected much more for $294 a night and would have appreciated even a partial refund. Very disappointing experience.
