We stayed at Fiji Gateway Hotel for one night before and after our island resort, and it worked well as a short stopover. While it’s not a five-star hotel, the rooms were surprisingly clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The biggest bonus is the location (just a five-minute walk from the airport) making arrivals and departures very easy. Check-in and check-out were quick and hassle-free. The hotel has two pools: a larger family pool and a smaller, quieter pool, which we preferred.
On the downside, the service was inconsistent. Some staff were friendly and welcoming, but many appeared miserable or grumpy, which made the atmosphere feel uninviting. There was also an older white man constantly hovering around the bar (possibly manager!?) who came across as rude, controlling, and equally unhappy. The food and drinks were average at best, including the coffee, and we ended up going to the airport for meals. There is a small gym, but it mainly has upper-body equipment and isn’t very useful for a full workout, especially for women.
Overall, it’s a practical and clean airport hotel with great location and pools, but the service, food quality, and facilities could be improved!
