With new safety guidelines in place, travel looks a bit different these days. These are some handy things to know before you hop on that plane to Montecristo:

• Research if any travel restrictions apply to your origin and destination before locking in your flight. Also check if there are any conditions you'll have to follow on arrival, such as proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
• You're required to wear a face mask throughout your travel experience, including at security checkpoints. You should be prepared to adjust your mask to verify your identity when asked.
• Instead of handing a TSA officer your boarding pass, place it straight on the scanner yourself. When that's done, hold it up for inspection.
• TSA now permits passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on luggage. This will need to be removed from your bag at the X-ray machine for scanning.
• To minimize handling during the screening process, put items such as your phone and loose change into your carry-on instead of into the bins.
• Separate any food you're carrying for X-ray screening. Food items often set off the alarm. Placing them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA officer to handle and inspect your belongings.
