Staying in a cave room but having an entryway in the room with windows out on the gorgeous Matera scenery is perfect. We also had a porch with chairs to sit outside. The breakfast was amazing! Fresh and delicious food served to us by the most welcoming people you could ask for, Angela and Agnese. We also had a wonderful piano player, Gianni, at breakfast every day - now that's a first for us!. If we went back to Matera, which we hope to do some day, we would stay here again. The only negative is WiFi is not reliable in our room. Unfortunately across all of southern Italy our 5g T-mobile plan didn't work either so we used physical maps. We stayed a week and so were able to see a lot of this magnificent area. Most people only stay two or three nights and I feel that is not enough.

San Francisco to Matera

Our stay at Corte San Pietro in Matera was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and care. The hotel itself is stunning — carved into the ancient stones of Matera, yet designed with incredible comfort and attention to detail. Every corner felt authentic, peaceful, and full of history, while still offering modern luxury. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We were also fortunate to meet Fernando, the owner, whose passion and hospitality made our stay even more special. His love for Matera and for the unique spirit of Corte San Pietro truly shines through. Finally, we want to highlight our wonderful chauffeur, Pasquale, who drove us from Matera to Positano. He was professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the region. The drive was long, but he made it safe, comfortable, and even enjoyable with his friendly personality and great conversation. We will always remember this part of our trip as one of the best experiences in Italy. Highly recommend both Corte San Pietro for a unique stay in Matera, and Pasquale if you need a reliable, thoughtful driver on the Amalfi Coast journey. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I would highly recommend staying here and when I come back to Matera this is where I’ll stay. The staff was extremely kind, helpful and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The room was clean and had such character. The breakfast was above and beyond amazing!

Wonderful experience

Absolutely wonderful experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is made up of several cave-houses, which gives you a very unique experience. Our room was very spacious, with a sitting area separate from the bedroom. Another sitting area outside your door on the courtyard is a great place to enjoy a night-cap. Matera has to be seen at night to be appreciated, and the Corte San Pietro hotel is right in the middle of it, providing an excellent experience.

What a lovely place ! Charming room decorated with taste very functional, in the heart of the sassi in Matera, close to everything by foot, lots of good restaurants around. Charming experience in Matera

A very charming place to stay that provides up level service. Breakfast was delicious. Everyone is courteous. They gave us a nice guidance on how to explore better Matera and also nice restaurants recommendations.
