The Wiregate Trail. I don't know where the name for this trail comes from. I did not see wire or a gate anywhere along its rather short half-mile span. But it had this little creek, so I stopped to grab a few images.

What a beautiful day to go hiking in the woods. It may have been blue skies but the hiking was very muddy from all the rain! #green
The St. Johns Bridge is a lesson in superlatives. Those gothic cathedral-like towers are 408 feet tall, making it the tallest bridge in the state. The center span is 1,207 feet across, and the total length is 2,069 feet from stem to stern. Making it the longest bridge in the state. It was built in 1931 (as an aside, providing much-needed labor for the area during the depression), which makes it one of the oldest. And perhaps this is all subjective, but it is certainly one of the most beautiful bridges you are likely to see anywhere or any time.

Oh, we have to add this, it is probably the only bridge ever to stand as a symbol for a widely-popular network television show. The name escapes me now, but I can certainly tell you that the residents of Portland do not necessarily take a grim view of that.

This is the second version of a bridge which spans the Multnomah Channel between Highway 30 North and West of Portland, Oregon and Sauvie Island. The first version had to be scrapped early in this century when it was discovered that cracks running through it would eventually lead to its collapse.

It's a young bridge, only seven years old, in fact, but it comes with all the amenities. It should, it cost $43 million to build. But it will last the county many, many years.

The first few hours of its history were some of the most exciting. It was floated into place right down the Multnomah Channel, part of a series of such rapid-replacement events throughout the state during that year.

This is the bridge you take to get to the trails at Warrior Point and Oak Island, two of the places from which I've posted discoveries in the past. There's a lot more to do on that island besides chase after wildlife -- farm fresh fruit stands, country stores, bike paths, beaches. It's a real gem, more or less in the heart of this great Pacific Northwest metropolis.

And it's just down the road from the St. Johns Bridge, that other iconic marvel featured in the series "Grimm."
