  • Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as Temple of the Buddha Tooth in English, is a UNESCO heritage site, and a popular place to visit for newly weds. It was awfully packed over the full moon weekend (would not recommend visiting during this period)! This pavilion-like structure at the front Paththirippuwa, or Octagon. It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. It’s a hard Hotel to review because it’s so old and unique. I loved the history of the Queens Hotel. I believe it was build in Colonial times by the British tea plantation owners. It’s right in the centre of town next to a beautiful lake. The pool is huge and very clean. The buffets were excellent with a variety of local, Indian and European food. The hotel is also reasonably priced.
