More of a house than a hotel.
This hotel is set in the countryside not too far from Huntingdon in Cambridge. It offers ample car parking. It is more of a home than a hotel. The Hosts are very friendly and offer a warm welcome on arrival. Shona provides a very nice full breakfast in the morning,
With my family we do a Northern drive along A1M from Surrey to Edinburgh, stopping a few times en-route. This the first time we chose to stay at Shire Lodge because the ratings looked good. We weren't disappointed. It is a very well presented and comfortable place to stay, The rooms are a bit cosy and the place is kept warm. (in-case you don't like it too hot) The double bed was a little snug. and if you're travelling late it's not good to arrive after 9pm. But the service is superb, large towels, plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits, water and dressing robes to the ensuite that is not quite adjoining the bedroom. There is a lovely lounge and dining room if you have time or get up early to enjoy it. the setting is quiet and calm, a very pretty location, garden and building - with a hot tub for warmer months!
The crowning glory was the superb Breakfast - it was included in the reasonably priced accomo, served on hot plates that kept the full English warm until you've finished your meal with juice, cereal, tea/coffee....etc Far better than many we've had at larger establishments. That with the warm welcoming hospitality we are happy to go back again and again! highly recommend!
Expedia got it wrong about the cost of the room! They quoted £65 per night but the actual price should have been £68 per night. It was a bit embarrassing to find out the price increase, when we were about to pay and leave the B&B. However, Shona (owner of B&B) explained and we were happy to pay her the correct rate.
I'm not sure I'd trust the Expedia quoted prices in future, though? It's the first time we've ever used Expedia and I have to be honest, while I have no complaints with the accommodation, I do think that the price quoted should have been accurate.
I realise you will not publish this information, but you do need to get you facts correct about price! From a slightly disappointed user of Expedia.
We stayed at Shire Lodge for one night and were delighted with our choice. Shona and Bob welcomed us on our arrival as if we were old friends. A cup of tea as soon as we stepped indoors and then relaxing in the beautiful garden chatting. Our room was cosy and everything we needed for a short stay. Tea,coffee, chocolate drinks plus chocolate biscuits. TV in our room, hairdryer etc. We strolled down the road to the local pub for our evening meal and on our return we relaxed in the lounge/ games room which had a snooker table too. Sky TV. Outside was a hot tub if we wanted to use it.
Breakfast was excellent. A choice of juices and cereals, followed by full English breakfast. Sausages, bacon, two eggs, mushrooms, tomato halves, black pudding and hash browns. Toast, butter and preserves. and a pot of coffee or large pot of tea. All freshly cooked by Shona.
Our room was well equipped and comfortable, clean and warm. Shona and Bob were excellent hosts and we will recommend to friends and family without hesitation. Many thanks and we will return again if we are travelling that way.
Beautiful gardens. Rooms have everything you need. Very clean and spacious. Tailor made breakfast. Our hosts were very friendly and made you feel extremely welcome. A very relaxing stay.
Lovely place, lovely people. Although a little bit off the beaten track would recommend to anybody. Hospitality and welcome above and beyond, beautiful breakfast but make sure you eat it all or Shona will tell you off! Can only say 20 out of 10
I stayed as I was visiting a sick friend in the area.
Could be slightly tricky to find but there is a good sigh on the road side with a light. There is no house number so the GPS will not take you exactly to the house. The post code takes you to within two hundred metres or so but on to the other side of the road.
The owners were on holiday but a lovely lady was house and dog sitting. She was very helpful and all the boxes were ticked. Had a super breakfast to set me up for the drive South. Fair value for the area.
Great B&B, well run, clean and smashing breakfast. Recommended

A pleasant location
Pleasant stay, a beautiful part of the country. helpful hosts. Tiny non en-suite room for 2 adults, a 14 year old child and a dog, (granted, a large dog!). No floor space I had no idea it would be so small when booking, or I would have gone elsewhere. I didn't know until two days before there was a 9pm latest book in time. This made for uncomfortably fast driving to get there on time from the North of the Country. Not flexible.I would say not the place to go if you're used to spacious hotel rooms as I am.
