The park's first administration building dates from 1916 and now houses the Longmire Museum and Visitors Center. It was built in the Parkitecture style - a rugged, often hand-built style, designed to blend in naturally with the environment. This style is common among many western US Parks, including Mount Rainier, Yellowstone and Yosemite.

How one pronounces this name is unclear as it was made up from the first letters of the names of the children from two families that climbed this in 1897: Burgon, Elizabeth, Lucy, Jessie, Isabel, Clara, and Alex. Oh, and this point was once used by professional fire watchers.
