It is an antique hotel. I like the dim sum in the Chinese restaurant, the foods is nice with reasonable price. The buildings around the hotel are so antique. Make sure take as many pictures as you can. Something you need to concern : The subway is about 600m to 800m away from the hotel. I don't mind to walk, because I can enjoy my view around the area. Something to prepare before travel to China: You better download the local GPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay. (WeChat is the must). Enjoy !! 🤗🤗

Very nice peaceful setting. Hotel does however need a little bit of refurbishment due to its age. However very nice 2 bedroom accommodation. Would recommend.

We always like staying at the Victory on Shamian Island. The breakfast buffet is plentiful with lots of options for Westerners and Europeans. Our room was nice, but a little chilly. We couldn't get the heat to come on. Our room was also 2 floors up from the street, so at night you could hear talking and traffic. And the hallway is dimly lit, with old carpet. But that is a small price to pay for the quaintness of the island and the close location to Number 9 shopping street and the wholesale Pearl and Jade market, as well as the subway. If we were ever in Guangzhou, we would stay here again. We stayed in Victory West both times, I haven't looked at the rooms in the East wing. I am told they are newer, but smaller.

Great hotel at a great location
Great location and facilities in the room. They even provide special water outlet at the sink fir filtered drinking water. A lot of minor details to make your stay comfortable. Location is marvelous. 5 min walk to mrt.

There were flies/mosquitos in the room. I got bitten on my leg and arm in the first day. When I complained the hotel clerk said due to planting of trees outside they could not help flies coming in.

A very nice historic Hotel, ask for the west end, located in the older French concession of Shamian. Staff is nice even tough english is difficult. Room is big and well furnished but not properly isolated, you can hear the planes at night... I recommend and will come back anyway

My only gripe was the breakfast quality - and temperature. Staff were good throughout and pleasant with it. Very convenient to Buses, Underground and walks along the riverfronts. Centre of Shamian has been very well beautified recently and is worth a visit

I took advantage of the 72 hour visa on my way back from Vietnam and decided to stay on Shamian Island after reading reviews. The taxi driver dropped me at the East Building and I was a little shocked that the receptionist didn't offer to arrange help with my bags to the West building (she just drew on a map and told me to walk there - which I wouldn't have minded if i didn't have 3 bags!) The West building is very dated and a bit depressing. The pool and the gardens are only accessed from the East building so I never bothered visiting. It was very hard to communicate with staff which I don't really have an issue with but it did make enquiring about tours and visiting places in the city impossible to extract information. And because the wifi is so poor it was impossible to research online. Fortunately I had booked a tour before arriving and the tour guide was excellent in providing me with information for my remaining days. Breakfast was ok. There is an excellent vegetarian restaurant next to the hotel which i ended up at every day. Starbucks for a good morning coffee is round the corner and from 2pm there is a delightful little coffee shop called Timeout that is a must visit for independent coffee and cakes. Overall I think the hotel is overpriced and definitely in need of updating.

A pleasant stay, value for money
We stayed in a balcony double room at the west building for two nights. The room was spacious and comfy, quiet neighbourhood, there was a construction in a morning but it was acceptable. Also shopping mall and the old town just a few minutes away. The wifi was good, so as buffet breakfast, even not too many choices but it was nice. I was not too happy about was the expected time of the birthday cake, I made a request for the arrival day for the birthday cake for a little celebration but it could only be arranged on the next day. It would be better if there was more privacy for the bathroom as there was only one sliding door for both the bathroom and the toilet. However, the service and the location was satisfactory and we would like to stay there again.

Location was great, close to the Metro, check in was quick and easy, I was given an "Expedia" upgrade, so I hate to think what room I would have been given without it! The shops & river for ferry travel were also close, quiet area with nice walking area down to the river. The Victory hotel is actually 2 hotels. I stayed in the older style Original one. The interior is becoming tired and run down. The management standards have slipped and is shown up in the attitude of staff... some are great and very helpful, others I suspect just want to be there to collect they pay cheque and are very uninterested and would rather be talking to their friends or on their mobiles. The breakfast (although reasonable cheap) was very poor, most was cold or over held, pigs feet for breakfast was probably a "no starter" from the beginning. There was way too much food being prepared for the number of diners, also fruit juice was supermarket brought bottled type, the option of 1/2 cooked omelette was available and was probably the best choice... at least it was hot. Somedays lots of staff others only 2. No management supervision..... I think I could have even been a better manager that what they have.... Having said that the $ room rate was good and although I would not stay here again I would consider staying at the "New Victory" hotel just around the corner.. This could be a GREAT hotel, it just needs some love and MUCH better management supervision.

Stayed at 4th level room with balcony. The room was modern, very clean and comfortable. A hotel of old world charm with modern comfort in the midst of a cluster of colonial buildings. A good variety for breakfast. Altogether a most satisfying stay.

Nice place to stay for Canton Fair.
We almost always stay at this hotel for Canton Fair. They do have a bus to Canton Fair which is nice, but does take about 40 minutes. The breakfast is HORRID at least in the west building. The rooms are always clean, WIFI is decent, the area is wonderful with lots of places to eat within walking distance.
