Relax on pristine beaches, walk through tranquil forests and dine on local seafood when you visit this attractive beachside community.

Swim or surf in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, explore hiking trails in nature parks and enjoy the local culinary scene when you visit the laidback community of Grayton Beach.

Grayton Beach and neighboring Miramar are in South Walton (Walton County), Florida. More than 100 years old, Grayton Beach takes pride in its heritage and relaxed atmosphere.

The town’s highlight is undoubtedly the long, golden beach. Spend a day basking in the warm, Floridian sun and swimming or snorkeling in the clear waters. If you are visiting during the summer, don’t miss the annual turtle nesting. Make your way down to the beach early in the morning to see tiny turtles making their first steps towards the ocean.

Away from the beach, explore 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) of scenic hiking and cycling trails through pine and scrub oak forests. Follow the relaxing 1-mile (1.6 kilometer) interpretive nature trail and find noticeboards that point out the various native flora.

If you enjoy fishing, be sure to head to Western Lake. The lake connects with the sea, allowing for excellent saltwater and freshwater fishing. Rent a canoe or kayak and explore the area. Enjoy a camping getaway at the Western Lake campsite, complete with cabins and tent pitches.

The town’s center is just a short walk from the beach. Wander the streets and you will find several excellent galleries displaying art inspired by the local area’s natural beauty. Eat at some of the region’s best restaurants before you make your way to the lively bars, many of which host live bands throughout the week.

Grayton Beach is located on the Florida Panhandle’s Gulf Coast, between Destin and Panama City. It is one of several communities that sit on the 20-mile (32.1-kilometer) stretch of coast. Grayton Beach is a 30-minute drive from Panama City and 45-minute drive from Florida Regional Airport.
