Dine in fine restaurants, take a harbor tour and enjoy many cultural activities while visiting this charming town on Puget Sound.

Gig Harbor is both a bay on Puget Sound and a small town on its shore. Wander along the town’s 2-mile (3-kilometer) bay-side walkway, which is lined with quaint cafés and shops. Enjoy a range of outdoor activities, including golfing, boating and fishing and attend one of the many special events the town hosts throughout the year.

Relax in Gig Harbor’s spacious public parks or play a round of golf at Canterwood Golf and Country Club. Shop for books, antiques, clothing, local artwork and other items at the lovely stores lining the town’s historic waterfront. This area is also a wonderful destination for dining, with restaurants specializing in Northwest seafood and hearty American fare.

Rent a motorboat, paddleboat, kayak or canoe to explore the bay’s open waters. Enjoy fishing and simply take in the beautiful peninsula views. Climb the 100 steps leading to the top of Finholm View Climb to see picturesque vistas over the city and Mount Rainier.

Pick up a self-guided walk brochure from the Gig Harbor Historical Society for an overview of the town’s highlights. Try to spot the 16 metal salmon sculptures designed by different local artists. These sculptures are placed in front of various sites around the town. During the summer, sign up for one of the city’s guided walking tours, which focus on the history of the region and wildlife native to the harbor.

Gig Harbor features events year-round, including food and wine festivals and family events. Head to Skansie Brothers Park in the summer to see music concerts or attend one of the park’s kid-friendly movie nights. The city also hosts a wonderful farmers market in the summer, where you can shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and other local products.

This beautiful bay and city is located about 12 miles (19 kilometers) from Tacoma, across the Tacoma Narrow Bridge. Check out the city’s official tourism website for more information about special events.

Close to many of Washington’s major metropolitan centers, Gig Harbor is a perfect place for an overnight or weekend trip filled with small-town charm.
