My two-night stay at Hotel Tikal Inn was mixed. While conveniently located just a ten-minute walk from Tikal's magnificent ruins, several issues detracted from the experience.
Pre-arrival communication was problematic, with emails and messages often unanswered for 3 days. I received incorrect information about Tikal ticket purchasing options and was quoted an inflated $100 for airport transfer while a nearby hotel offers more affordable shuttle options.
The property shows signs of neglect with cobwebs on windows, ceilings, and walls. My shower had mineral buildup causing an uncomfortable water stream. While rooms are generally clean, maintenance needs improvement.
I stayed in room B11, which was clean but lacked the mosquito netting visible in other rooms. When requested, staff claimed my bed was "too large" for netting, resulting in uncomfortable nights disturbed by mosquitoes.
The staff were pleasant and engaging in person. All meals I enjoyed at the property were consistently good. The hotel does offer an outdoor pool which is a nice amenity.
Internet connectivity was limited to common areas only, despite advertisements of "free Wi-Fi" creating inconvenience for planning activities.
While Hotel Tikal Inn has potential given its prime location, management should address these issues to improve the guest experience and better reflect its position as a gateway to one one of Guatemala's most treasured archaeological sites.
