In the mid-20th century, as the buildings in the area fell into disrepair, many of the city’s poorest citizens squatted in the dilapidated houses. From the 1990s onward, however, Florentin emerged as a destination for artists seeking affordable living spaces.

Enjoy the art that resulted from this demographic shift, as the area today hosts numerous edgy galleries in renovated spaces. Artemisia supports Tel Aviv’s female artists, while the Inga Gallery of Contemporary Art brings in crowds with boundary-pushing exhibitions. To truly experience Florentin’s arts scene, however, simply wander around the streets admiring the extensive graffiti.

Return to Florentin at night to join local residents partying in the streets. Drinks of Israeli craft beer and inventive cocktails suit travelers of all budgets. Sample food from street vendors who stay active late into the night.

Florentin’s borders are inexact. Find it between Tel Aviv and Jaffa in the area around Rehov Salome.
