Discovery Lodge

"This is the perfect place to stay in Estes Park provided you aren’t looking for something fancy. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, pillows on our bed were just ok, nice outdoor seating areas, and it was a short 10 minute walk to the downtown Estes area where there is shopping, restaurants and a nice river walk. The hotel staff was very accommodating as we needed a late check in arriving at 10pm. If you come during the fall rut, you’ll likely see elk right on the property or on the golf course next door in the evenings. Some mornings we woke to bugling right outside our balcony at 6:30am. We love this property for its simple amenities, friendly staff, convenient location and wildlife sightings."

Appenzell Inn

Appenzell Inn

8/10 Good
"Property was a little dated and needed maintenance (mold in caulking, creaky mini-split a/c). We weren’t there for the stay though - we just slept. Our room was the executive suite - wasn’t executive ;). Mostly disappointed in the clientele. Not sure if it’s time of year (after Labor Day, schools are in session), but most of the folks were grumpy retirees. They literally shoved our 4 and 6 year old daughters out of the way at breakfast. They saved seats instead of letting a mom with full hands sit down by her children. An adult man probably in his 70s shut a door in my daughter’s face instead of holding open. Was incredibly strange. No fault of the inn - but maybe be wary that if this is their clientele and you are expecting a welcoming atmosphere from other travelers. Staff were very accommodating and friendly."

"We didn’t have any cell coverage there and the WiFi that did over was very restricted. Slow and hard to get online pull up info on trails or what to do in the Rocky Mountains. Otherwise, nice views and relaxing. No TV so it was a nice chance to unplug."
