The standing stone was placed there for the monks who would walk the open moors to go or return from Whitby Abbey which is located just a few miles cross country from this stone in the direction this photograph shows..

Nice room but must have had smokers in it previously before us because it stunk of smoke 🚬 which was a shame because the room was nice! But the smokey smell was very unpleasant. Apart from that no other problems at all. Me and my husband are none smokers so this was an issue for us unfortunately. ...
