The afternoon sunlight filtering through the lush green of the trees on this bridge leading to Amanoyasugawara Shrine was a sight to behold. I've always loved the more quieter trails that lets you appreciate nature. The sounds of birds and insects combined with the steady susurrus of the stream makes the entire walk even more magical. The aforementioned shrine is a simple shrine inside a large cave believed to be where the gods and goddesses met to discuss their strategy of luring the goddess Amaterasu from her hiding place and bring back light into the world. Protip: At the start of the trail leading to the shrine, right beside the main road, is a shop that sells souvenirs and these amazing sandwiches with local beef and chicken products in it that taste absolutely delicious. That, and their mushroom tea is a must try.
