It’s historic, which means it’s old. Staff was nice, beds were clean, interesting history. Needs some serious updates and maintenance. Nothing much around it for food.
This may not be the place for the snobby, but if you have an open mind and love quirky this is a cool place. It's an old building and has had some trouble from Mother nature lately but it has a charm to it. It has some quirky plumbing tricks but once you have the hot water dialed in the shower feels great after several days of desert camping. It's quiet at night and the bed was comfortable. Next time I will make time for the tour which I hear is real interesting.
This was a convenient pick for us because other lodgings in Death Valley were busy during the holidays. We were nervous about other reviews that said the walls were thin, but we took a risk for two nights, especially because they are dog-friendly!
Pros: good location, super friendly staff, cozy vibes, our heat worked, our hot water was great even with a wait.
Cons: old towels that had thread falling apart, bed was a bit stiff, cold air came in through the space on the door
Neutral: communal space
Great place to stay for exploring Death Valley and Ash Meadows. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, and the art and history are amazing.

Good location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The topography poses a problem as the ground water in the winter rises because the valley is far below, sea level. This creates a very muddy encounter in the middle of death Valley.
Glad the hotel was there, history very interesting. Beautiful setting.
Loved the history! I enjoyed the site vibes and the tour offered to learn more.

Close to death valley. Quiet. Accommodating. Had to do a room swap because of no hot water in the shower

It’s a historic building on the National registry. When planning your visit you need to be aware of this. The building is over 100 years old, and subject to the extreme desert conditions. We found it charming. The room and bathroom was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the sheets were great. The only downside was that we arrived after a flooding and in the common area was a musty smell, but not in the room. The employees were very friendly and very informative! We were unable to take a tour of the opera house; however, my relatives had and recommended it, which we plan to do on our next trip there.
Older property but it was well maintained. We really enjoyed our stay. Close to Nevada Border so we were able to get gas much cheaper and The Long Street Casino had a good restaurant. The hotel was not too far from Death Valley National Park. It was perfect for us.
The staff at the hotel were friendly and very accommodating. The Opera House tour is a must!!

Awesome place so much history, staff was wonderful, facilities old but clean. The 2023 Hillary floods hit the whole area hard and they are still recovering.
We had a great stay!
Shelby led a very informative tour of the Opera House.
The place exudes history!
Also, great location, with a fine restaurant just up the road.
