  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

I loved this hotel for what we needed this weekend. We were there for a volleyball tournament. It was clean, quiet, they have a little store with snacks etc. the front desk staff were beyond kind and accommodating. We requested a late checkout and were allowed to stay to 2 pm with helped us greatly; we didn't have to spend 6 hours at the airport. There is also a Starbucks 2 min walk away, Target and some restaurants within walking distance.

Was okay for a college town hotel, I guess. Maintenance was not great. Many lights not working and blinds not working correctly. I like the wood like floors and elevated bed but the floor under the bed was very dirty and dusty. Disappointed by the brand for not hiring and keeping a better number of staff to keep a cleaner hotel. The vibe was great and I like the games and pool table in lobby. The shower was not working as well correctly.

Too noisy. Walls are too thin. The sliding door into bathroom is a bad design. If you pull on it it will crash into the sink since it swings freely

We stayed her for an OSU football game. It is about a half hour walk to the stadium. The staff was wonderful. The room was spartan and a bit beat up but clean. I know the ridiculous price was based on location and not amenities. It has a parking lot and they allowed me to park 2 cars which was great on a game day. The on site bar was hopping and had a great vibe.

Noisiest hotel stay I've experienced in years. Requested top floor when I booked in June for an October stay. Not available at check-in, and no reason why. We were assigned room 231, next to the stairwell. The doors are heavy with strong closers, so every time someone enters/leaves a room, the sound wakes you up. Then the guests in room 331 checked in between midnight and 1am and proceeded to drag their bags up the stairwell (banging on each step). After that they just stomped around the room and flushed their turbo toilet repeatedly (another loud noise source). And with no carpeting and a distinct lack of soundproofing, you could hear every time an item is dropped. If you are looking for a quiet night's sleep don't stay at Aloft. I certainly won't.
