Giant slab above Nant Rhaeadr falls This huge slab obstructs the flow of the river to such a degree that it appears on the 1:25K map. The water flows around three sides of it before falling down to the valley below. A wall has been built beside the slab to narrow the flow. This can be seen where the white water appears in the photo.

Mynydd Mallaen Standing Stone This single Standing Stone is close to a public footpath, and offers wonderful views across to Carmarthen Fan, Pen y Fan and the rest of the Brecon Beacons. NB, several sites (even COFLEIN) spell 'Mallaen' in different ways, care needed!

Afon Tywi and Craig Clungwyn Afon Tywi (Towy River) tumbles over the rocks to join Afon Pysgotwr Fawr. The hill on the left is Craig Clungwyn. To the right is Dinas Hill, once the hideout of the Welsh Robin Hood, Twm Sion Catti. His cave, high up on the tree covered slopes, is still a tourist attraction.

Cwm Gwenlais. Hill stream off Mynydd Mallaen. The usual Mid Wales pattern of a steep sided v shaped valley. The lower end has some small spruce plantations. The farm that was near here is long abandoned, the tenants probably gone downstream to better land, as my family once did.

Spectacular views. Clean, charming cabin, tiny but cosy and fully equipped. Welcome gifts, easy communication with lovely landlady Sarah, privacy, peaceful and serene. Hot tub was a huge bonus. Garden with furniture and bbq. Pristinely clean and safe for our small dog. Will be back.
