• A plane ride can be a stress-free experience if you take the right stuff. • The result of prolonged periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clotting condition that can affect passengers on long-distance flights. Lower your risks by drinking water, keeping your legs and ankles moving and wearing compression socks or tights.

As savvy travelers know, the secret is to be well organized before you arrive at the airport security gate. That way, you'll be hopping onto that plane to Ttakpat before you know it. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a fantastic start:

• Your travel documents and passport will need to be presented to security personnel. Have them close by so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like coins, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• All electronic devices, including your laptop and phone, will also need to be scanned separately.
• Any gels or liquids, such as shampoo or hand cream, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a great footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when going through security. Hiking boots and other bulky shoes are often subjected to additional screening.
• Sharp or pointed items are not allowed on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked luggage.
