No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you're well prepared. We've made a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Taishan vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane trip can be a stress-free experience if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll want a few basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a spare change of clothes and a good book. Next, make room in your bag for your electronic devices, chargers, medications and maybe a quality neck pillow too. Lastly, don't forget to bring your passport, travel docs and your bank cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of restricted items differs between airlines, the general rule to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, blades, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like bows and arrows, and items that could injure passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, can't come on board with you either.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your top priority when deciding what to wear on board. Loose, breathable clothing is a wise choice, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To lower your risk on board, stay hydrated, consider wearing compression tights or socks and keep your legs and feet moving.

A little pre-planning before you get to the airport will help make your getaway to Taishan a breeze. Check out our handy tips for a swift journey past security:

• Keep your passport and travel documents within close reach. They're the first things you'll be asked to show at security.
• Your coat, belt, keys and other small items, like coins, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them before your turn.
• All your electronic devices, including your phone and laptop, will also need to be scanned separately.
• Don't forget to remove liquids and gels from your carry-on luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray scanner separately. Each product should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you several valuable minutes. Boots and bulky shoes are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Slip-on shoes are usually not.
• Pocket knives and other sharp items are not allowed in the cabin. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.
