- Flying can be a comfortable experience if you take the right stuff. First things first, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good book. Secondly, find room in your hand luggage for your phone, tablet and chargers, any vital medications and perhaps a cozy neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Make sure you don't have sharp or pointed objects hiding in one of the zippers of your hand luggage. Other restricted items include explosive or flammable substances, such as aerosol cans and bleach, and gels and liquids in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of your aircraft are no place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and bring a cardigan as it tends to get cool inside the cabin during long-haul flights. Flat, enclosed shoes are also a wise idea.
- The serious condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation. Walking around the cabin and doing regular foot and leg exercises in your seat helps to prevent this from happening. Wearing a good-quality pair of compression socks also helps reduce the risk.
