Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you prepare well enough. Follow these handy tips that will get your Koishi vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Traveling on a plane can be easy if you pack the right things. Firstly, you'll want some basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a spare pair of socks and a magazine or two. Secondly, find room in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, your important medications and maybe a neck pillow as well. • Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp or pointed objects, like your trusty Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosols and strong acids, are also restricted.

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of an aircraft are no place for a fashion parade. Layer your clothing and choose shoes that are flat, roomy and easy to slip on and off.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some simple exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.

• Security personnel first need to check that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before you're allowed to proceed any further. Keep them within easy reach.
• Next up is the X-ray machine. Empty your pockets and remove anything that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes things like headphones or earphones, as well as heavy jackets or coats. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
• Electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go on a tray to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online in no time.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or toothpaste, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
• The right choice of footwear can save you valuable minutes. Boots and bulky shoes are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Slip-on shoes are usually not.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, put them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed in the cabin.
