• A plane trip can be a great experience if you've got all the right things. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a clean set of clothes and a magazine or two. What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Dress in comfortable layers and go for shoes that are flat, enclosed and easy to pull on and off.
• You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To reduce your risk on board, stay hydrated, consider wearing compression tights or socks and do gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat.
