"The lodge is in a beautiful location in Sequoia NP and really convenient to trails and popular park areas. You can't beat the setting --even the walk from the building we stayed in to the main lodge was a peaceful stroll through the woods. If you're sensitive to heat, maybe ask for a room on the first floor--our second floor room got really warm in the afternoon although it was cool enough to sleep at night with dans running. The lodge restaurant and the pizza deck were both great and their cocktails were delicious and interesting (especially the gimlet)."
"John Muir Lodge is in an unbeatable location in Kings Canyon NP, with trails accessible right outside your door. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The pillows were comfy, the shower was glorious, and the lounge is a cozy place to drink coffee in the morning. However! Please know going in that there is only one restaurant available for all lodge guests, campers, and day visitors, and they are super understaffed (not their fault). The restaurant staff we interacted with were incredibly kind, patient, and friendly despite people getting frustrated and behaving in really gross, rude, entitled ways. Please bring your patience and most considerate manners when you visit. It's a remote location with minimal amenities, not Disneyland. If you have the right expectations and are here to appreciate the beautiful park, you'll love it."
"Location was convenient for access to the park, restaurants and local shopping.
Room was clean. Pool looked nice but we didn’t use it. Breakfast area was crowded, but understandable because the hotel was booked full, breakfast was average, nothing negative to say. Would stay again if we come back through."
"Great check in with a very nice host. The deck was nice with a grill to cook. It did get very hot inside but the AC was able to cool it down after a few hours being inside."
"Booked last minute for a de-stress weekend getaway. Hotel is well-maintained , attentive Staff, clean amenities. Location is conducive to the river, restaurants.etc.
Overall great experience!"
"My sister and I stayed in the Hunter’s Lodge, and were able to visit nearby King’s Canyon and Sequoia National Parks easily due to its location. LOVED the place. It was a mix of hotel and cabin vibes, with shaded spaces to relax outside and good amenities. It was awesome being next to the restaurant, and they offered options for traveling lunches. The staff were courteous and helpful. When I was sitting in the back patio area, a server asked if I minded if she could smoke there or she could move to the front. Another staff member helpfully offered ideas for what to do at the parks. And the property dogs were adorable, friendly, and also courteous. Housekeeping came by every day and kept the place tidy. It was the perfect price for everything that was offered. If you plan to be out of your room most of the time you were in the area, they offer smaller rooms with less amenities, but we enjoyed spreading out.
We bought groceries to save money, but when we ate at the restaurant, the burger, quesadilla and frozen coffee drink were delicious!
The only downside was the shower was either boiling hot, good for 1 minute, or freezing, leading to wasted water. Was never able to figure it out but everything else was so good it didn’t matter."
"The best thing about this motel is the location; almost right to the gate of Sequoia National Park. You are paying a premium purely for the convenience of driving into the park within minutes, rather than spending an hour commuting from a larger town.
However, lower your expectations. It’s a true motel, nothing more. The rooms are dated, and the amenities are bare-bones. Come for the convenience, but don't expect a resort experience."
