We needed a room to accommodate three people, and this worked out perfectly. I will admit upon walking up to it, I was nervous. Where I am from a building that much graffiti is a big red flag, however once through the door and up the stairs, the room was quite clean. We had an early flight and needed to be up early to get to the airport. It turns out the location is right in the heart of old town Catania, where there is a gorgeous church and a beautiful square with very walkable streets, plenty of nightlife, restaurants, vendors, shops, and entertainment along the way. I’m giving it 4 stars only because there was no staff on site, and no typical hotel amenities. The manager/owner was promptly available through WhatsApp and helped us with the entry process. He spoke English and was very patient and helpful. if you need to stay for one or two nights in Catonia, this is a great spot.
Let's start with the bad: Catania is a strange city. When we arrived in the neighborhood on a Friday night, we were shocked by the graffiti and garbage everywhere on the streets, as well as broken bottles and animal feces. The unit is in what appears to be a sketchy area, but we never actually felt unsafe - I guess it is just that kind of neighborhood. The doors to the building are so narrow that my husband had to take off his backpack and enter sideways. Unit is on 3rd or 5th floor, could not really tell, as the staircase is circular and long, so pack light! Train tracks are nearby, and woke us up at 6am. Partying went on all night outside - even though I could hear it, it was not too disturbing. There was no water bottle or coffee in the room (after 3 weeks in other 20 places we got used to having at least that if not more). Now the good: The location is perfect to visit downtown yet on the edge, so you can walk to non-touristy restaurants outside the center. There is a secured, paid parking 7 min easy walk away. The host was wonderful, communication was timely and detailed, and we had no issues checking in and finding the place. The room is large, bright, with 2 balconies overlooking the lit up dome and restaurants street on one side and the sketchy neighborhood on the other - actually a very odd combination. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean and working. We only stayed for one night. I would recommend it for short stays and easy walking to downtown.

We loved staying here at Palazzo Currò! It was very clean, quiet, and easily accessible. The staff was very communicative and friendly. I highly recommend staying here! A very special place and a special thanks to Michael for the helpful and quick responses! We will be back!

This property was conveniently located to a park and an area with a lot of restaurants. However, the remote check-in process is clunky and problematic. Lots of stairs.

Property has lovely views with an outside seating area. It is spacious and clean with reasonable facilities and the contact staff were very responsive. The area is well served and vibrant.
Unfortunately it is not suitable for an elderly couple with a heavy bag.
It is not mentioned in the ad I don't think but this is a walkup of several flights on a tight spiral staircase. Definitely not for anyone with mobility issues. If you can't carry your luggage up several flights you should avoid it. Having said that though it is a convenient location and a nice room with great views. The host is very helpful although you never meet him.
Not a hotel in the accepted sense, no reception and communication all done remotely. Having said that host Michael was attentive and stayed in touch.
However
1 Not suitable for older people who will have to walk up several flights of narrow stairs with their baggage. To his credit Michael did offer to come to the ‘hotel’ to help with the bags if required but we left most of our stuff in car as only one night stay.
2 The online app for opening and closing front door and individual apartments is only in Italian.
3 The apartment could do with signs explaining how to turn on gas cylinder so gas elements would function and how the controls for electric oven work - the apartment was clean but the oven was filthy.
4 Cold water shower only - maybe we have to turn a water heater on but not advised and no signs.
5 Location in heart of old town was great and noisy - close to most of the attractions and multiple eating options.
Hotel is best suited for budget travellers looking for central location and who don’t want or need a lift to walk up 4 or 5 floors.
Judged on that basis offers good value.
The only positive thing to say is location. A/C doesn't work properly. Insects crawling everywhere ( video taken) .walls covered with dust and dirt. Building is extremely dirty. Six floors to walk up. Having access to your room is quite difficult. Check in complicated.
The hairdryer caught on fire.
The bed was like sleeping in a hammock.
People tried coming in our room in the middle of the night because the rooms weren’t clearly marked. There were no extra pillows.
The only thing I appreciated from this place was the location.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Awful noisy unpleasant room. Many steep narrow stairs , no lifts. Could hear train loudly and neighbours having sex even louder.
Room was very basic and looked NOTHING like the photos. Hard bed. Terrible pillows. Weird small shower.
In dire need of a renovation.
Area is close to old town but very run down.
Was very disappointed. We travel a lot using Hotels.com bookings. This is the first hotel we have been in that was nothing like the photos. Room we were in needs painting and updating at the moment it is a one star option
Some rooms are ok, we had an 'attic room' up a steep narrow steel step staircase. There was a small fridge on the floor & one chair and double bed. No other furnishings and hardly room for what was in there. No flat surface to charge phone other than window sill. Would not recommend!
