The refuge stretches down into the Morrillos Peninsula, with some of the most dramatic landscapes in Cabo Rojo. Stay in the town center of Cabo Rojo to explore the sights. The Museo de los Proceres celebrates the region’s heritage. Relax in the Plaza Ramon Emeterio, an outdoor social space that frequently hosts musical events. Visit the Church of San Miguel Arcangel, an 18th-century church with a history linked to slave emancipation.
Drive to Cabo Rojo from Eugenio Maria de Hostos Airport in Mayagüez, which is about 14 miles (23 kilometers) away. Come to Cabo Rojo in winter to see the flocks of migratory birds that arrive in the wildlife refuge or stay in September to partake in the festival of the town’s patron saint.
