Explore the galleries, museums, state parks and nature preserves of this picturesque city in central New York State.

Located in a valley where two rivers come together, Binghamton has an abundance of natural beauty. Visit the city for everything from strenuous hikes and wildlife spotting to local history and artistic masterpieces.

The city has many art galleries and studios presenting works of local and international artists. View paintings and sculptures from all over the world at the Binghamton University Art Museum. Appreciate art from the Africa Diaspora at Africa House. The New York Art Collection features major artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. Viewings are by appointment only.

Devote some time to exploring Binghamton’s other cultural riches. Examine fossils at the Roberson Museum and Science Center and see stars inside its planetarium. Study period furniture and paintings while touring the Phelps Mansion, built in 1870.

Binghamton has parks, playgrounds and more for children. At Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, observe hundreds of animals including leopards, tigers, wolves, pandas and snakes. Next door is the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier, offering hands-on activities and a story garden featuring characters from children’s books.

Experience the green spaces in and around Binghamton. Hike the trails of Chenango Valley State Park, then cool off in one of its lakes. Come back in the winter for cross-country skiing. Look for birds, butterflies and mammals such as coyotes, beaver and deer as you walk through the Binghamton University Nature Preserve. Cycle along the Binghamton River Trail and relax among the flowers of the Cutler Botanic Garden.

If you are in Binghamton between Memorial Day and Labor Day, enjoy a free ride on an antique carousel. The six large wooden amusements are located in six parks and were a gift from a wealthy businessman in the first half of the 20th century. He insisted that civic authorities never charge for the rides.

To reach Binghamton, fly into Greater Binghamton Regional Airport and stay for the beautiful scenery, wildlife and culture.
